Monitor Audio vs. Def Tech - Which One ??

I am building a new system to replace my 15 year old Bose/Denon surround system. Having not been in the audio/video market for a while I am amazed at the quality of systems out there. My question to all is as follows:

I had my mind kind of made up on some Def Tech mythos one fronts and mythos 3 center channel speakers after hearing them at BB over several sessions and reading some of the reviews. I enlisted a friend of mine who works at Magnolia and he begged me to listen to some others before I buy and he had me listen to some Monitor Audio RS8 with rs-lcr center. I was very impressed with the depth and warmth of the sound and felt they were a wonderful speaker. I am now more confused.

I would like to hear from anyone on their thoughts on comparing the two manufactures and listening qualities/preferences that some might share.
Thanks in advance

The first thing you should decide is if you prioritize looks or performance. The Mythos look great, but they will sound nowhere as robust as the MA RS8. You are comparing apples and oranges. If you don't need that "thin" appearance that the mythos provides, there a number of $1000 speakers that are not huge like the RS8 that you can listen to.

I am more concerned with performance as I have the room for speakers in the realm of the size of the RS8's. I was just so much more impressed with the deeper sound of these speakers. My guess is the larger volume of the enclosure and the nature of the solid wood vs. particle board type of wood is a real factor ???
Any other recommendations would be welcome as I was somewhat closed in my intial analysis and the MA experience has me opening to other thoughts.

If you have listened to and like the RS8 I would recommend you listen to the RS6. I found very little discernable difference between the two other than a minor improvement in bass extension (the RS8 goes a little lower).

When I was upgrading my system a few years ago, I directly compared Def Tech and Monitor Audio. Initially I was sure I was going with Def Tech but after listening for long periods of time, I decided I preferred the Monitor Audios (I bought the GR60's). I felt the MA's had better detail and warmth.

Defnitely cross out the Mythos off your list then. You may though head over to Magnolia at best buy and listen to the normal def techs which excel at home theater, but not music so much. Listen to as much as you can and make your own demo CD - Focal 700 series, B&W 600 series, Revel F series, Monitor Audio RS series....they all sound different, but good overall.
