I have a Sony 46E2000 I bought a openbox Samsung BDP1000 about 10 days ago and wanted should I set my player at 1080 and let the TV scale it down or set it at 720p the tv native resolution.

Your always best off comparing yourself. Especially with a 720p display.

I found on a Panny AE900U 720P projector that setting my HDA2 and PS3 to 1080i and letting it scale to 720P looked better to me. Good enough to enable me to be patient and wait until good 1080P projectors come down in price some.

I have the 50 inch version of your TV and on my PS3 I selected all the resolutions available (480p/720p/1080i. I've noticed that movies play in 1080i and games are at 720p....I think everything looks great.
