I'm currently putting together my first home theater in the kids game room and I'm up to the screen decision. I thought I'd post here for some advice.
room: 19x14 with a window on the projection wall
content: 80% movies, 10% gaming, 10% sports/TV
projector mount at about 15.5 ft. from the ceiling at 92. inches (Chief RPA-U)
seating: 9-14 ft.
I'd really like to be able to do a 2.35:1 screen but may have to wait on the anamorphic lens (would consider zoom method for the short term)
Questions? which setup should I go after? the quick and easy (low $) standard 16x9 pulldown screen or customize it so that it looks right in the room? (lots more $$$) Do I have to worry about masking for 16x9 content? or will I be able to ignore the sidebars?
Because of the window, I think I'm relegated to a pulldown.
Currently I'm looking at a Da-lite High Power which will give me a gain of about 1.25-1.30 from the prime seating. I'm still up in the air with a model C vs. a contour electrol. Is there other screens that I should look at?
The current contenders for the projection are the Panasonic AE-2000 or the Optoma HD-80. At a 15.5 ft. throw, I hope that these projectors can cover a 122" wide 2.35 screen and still deliver a punchy image with accurate colors. I'm a little nervous about the Optoma in the fan noise and the heat that it will generate. Since the Panny is still very new, I have no idea how it's picture compares to the Optoma. Since this will be my first projector, I'm not sure if I'm a "must-have-inky-blacks" or "make the image pop with luscious colors" fan. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks,

Here's the room:

Here's what a standard Da-lite 16x9 pulldown would look like:

or should I add extra drop to cover the bottom light leaking?

Here's a 16x9 image

and here's what a 2.35:1 image would look like with letterboxing

Or should I just up the cost of the screen and go for the 2.35:1 with extra drop?

16x9 material, Will I be annoyed with the picture unless I mask? I may in the future install masking side curtains but the wife is concerned that they will look wrong with an off-centered window when they are open and the screen is up. ugh!

2.35:1 pirates

Anyone have experience with a High Power screen this size?
Thanks for your feedback
