If we redo the 3 season porch I get the finished basement.

We (my buddy and I) finished the porch last night....
Today began the Conversion....

The room is 30x18. It is so UGLY!!! I am so excited to make it nice.
I am not doing theater seats and risers...I am doing a nice leather couch set that is the same color as the future side wall paint. I am keeping 15 feet behind the seating for expansion, family rec of some sort.

The room is all wood paneling with black and white alternating tile. YUCK!!!
Today we added a wall. Framed it so the sub, ctr and main speakers were built in. And so I have 5 feet behind the wall for storage and my components to be hidden. We also snaked all the a/v cables in wall ready to go

The basics:

* Bought a house, re-did the whole upstairs..now its time for the basement
* Building theater in basement room measuring approximately 30" x 18'.

Theater Design:
* Projector JVC-RS35 (Was Sony VPL-AW15>Panny AE2000U>Epson 1080UB>JVC RS1>JVC RS10>Anthem LTX 500)
* Screen is 128" DIY 1.3 gain 2.37:1 (Was 110" Stewart ST130)
* (Now Gone) Prismasonic HE1500R Lens
* Distance from screen to seating (7) is approxmately 12.5'.
* Sound is Pioneer SC-27, Speakers-Zerius by Triangle (http://www.triangle-fr.com/), SvS PC13-Ultra(was Onkyo TX-NR905 then Sunfire Cinema 7 and Sub-eD A5-350).
* Pioneer Elite Bdp-23fd Blu-Ray (Was a Panasonic BD-35).
* Accoustic treatments are Soundstop wall panels that are in wall.
* Equipment A/V Rack, is in closet with a Universal MX-980 and IR Receiver.
* XBox 360, Fios HD Cable, and Custom made HTPC w/ DVI to HDMI.
* Paint is all Benjamin Moore. Screen wall and ceiling-"Black Raisin" and the side-"Gooseberry".
* Carpet plush Chocolate Brown.

Yep...the PJ mount is up I was watching it all last week...gunna pull it down to paint ceiling.


Sheetrock Done, notice the Components in the back area behind where the secret door will be.


All the places for the speakers cut out of the rock.


Filling the nail holes and seams done.

PS I plan on this being done by wedsday night before thankgiving- the 21st . I began work on wedsday the 14th.
So HOPEFULLY this is a one week project.

Today we primed in the am and painted the back (non-theater portion) of the basement. We got as far as rolling the walls the gooseberry color on the side (didnt get to the corners yet). We also sanded the mud on the drywall and added a second coat.

A coat of BIN primer is up over the walls nasty wood paneling...

Day 3 will be sunday, we plan on finishing all the painting other than the black which will go up after the last sanding on the screen wall. Hopefully the first coat will be up sunday as well!

Since this thread is such a hit I figured I would finish for posterity's sake...

Well I have most the painting done...Got the speakers in the wall and the screen up...Tomorrow I will lay carpet, set up seating and have it 90% ready so it can be used on Turkey day.

Here is the progress so far...


The Black Raisin is on the screen wall and ceiling (after 4 coats!!)


Speakers are in...Just need to fix the edges around them and make it look seamless.



And FINALLY!! The screen is up....

Carpet installed, most wiring set and just some touch up painting left.
Gotta sand and paint around the speakers.
I am also awating my new sub, a eD A5-350

PS if you notice the hole in the bottom left of the wall its going to have a painted grate on it. There is a heater in the area behind the new screen wall, the heat will be directed out the hole...and wont be noticable at all
PPS That was originally going to be for a front firing sub, but I needed more OOMPH and needed to redirect the heat so it all worked out!!

I framed regular speakers.
Sounds great to me...looks cool too ;P)

I did carpet the whole room. I was going to do half as well but I am really glad I did it all!

Actually give me a few days...I need to finish a few things up (mostly clean up)...but having a 6 month old makes time a rare commodity.

The surrounds are same length away from screen wall (13 ft-same as couch)BUT due to room layout one is further away (the rt surround) than the left. This is due to the screen not being center. I just set the right distances in my receiver and am all set

The drapes do 80% light blockage for me. Not a big deal as I do 90% of watching in the evening.

Well as long as you took the future into account then you are golden when the time comes!

I saw a 65" plasma at my buddies place, it was a calibrated 1080p panny and it looked killer! (from the right distance- too close and it degrades quickly)

I work from home and had a lot of freedom that week-and I also had a really skilled helper!

Plus I wanted it done so I could watch some movies!

Actually yes...I built my own screen and went to CIH.
I am also awaiting a new projector..I will post pics soon

Well I was 9 when Jedi came out...

Ya its an original. It, as well as a lobby card withj 'revenge" on it were found in a supply closet of a general cinema when they were bought out by amc like 8 years(??) ago.
My brother worked there , saw them and knows I am a sw geek so he brought em home. I scored!!!
