BD-P1400 Poll : KEEP or RETURN?

Ok. I have tried three BD-P1400s. All with the firmware updated. All had glitches. I am holding on to the last one for a while. What about you???
What movie did you have problems with? Based on your signature it doesn't look like you have any Blu-Ray movies! The 1400 can't play your HD-DVD's! Is that the glitch you are referring to?

Hi. Actually, the only reason I own any HD-DVDs is they were free with my player purchase. I have used Netflix for all my BD (and subsequent HD-DVD) viewing so far. These are the BDs I've watched, some more than once: Spiderman 2, 2.1, & 3, Ratatouille, 300, Surf's Up, the Sopranos Season 6.2, March of the Penguins, The Departed.
I own an HD-A35, awaiting delivery on an HD-XA2, and a BD-P1400. Most of the problems I had are posted on the BD-P1400 thread (sticky).
edit: Shrek III was HD-DVD. Sorry, my bad.

When I set this up I was sure I checked it to be a Public Poll... I do not know what happened to that... sorry.

ADDED: Nevermind. It shows when I click on the poll...

My first one was a lemon (drawer wouldn't even open) but my second has been good so far.

OK, but then you picked the wrong poll choice...
Added: DARN! I didn't put in a choice for returned it for another and kept that one... shoot, now the poll will be skewed towards keeping it with no worries...

Although it stop out of no where with Standard def dvd's.... it still play at same part when I press play. So, no i'm not returning it. I have it and love it so far. BD movies are great, no problem so far... except for Surf's up.

Well there is no choice for me. I had/have a 1200 and swore I would never buy another Samsung player. So I upgraded to a pioneer 95. My big complaint is the FW updates. Samsung has a reavctive stance and that to me is unacceptable.

I bought a 1400 and watched Cars on it. Looked great and had no glitches, but I did find it irritating when I left it in the pause mode and found that I had to start all over again to resume! Those previews seem to take forever...

I skimmed through the owner's manual, and noticed plenty of disclaimers about what would be considered normal operation ("some discs may not play..."). Not very inspiring, to say the least.

With this, having read about the problems experienced by other AVSers, I decided that I would be better off with a Panasonic BD30 instead, so I returned it and bought the Panny. Hope it works out.

I am glad I am not the only one who found the pause mode a PITA! I watched Surfs Up last night with my family and did not want to pause it at all concerned I would have to restart the movie.

I will return the 1400 when the BD30 arrives. I am glad for the people that own the 1400 that have not had any issues, but I am not one of them. By buying the BD30 I am giving up internal decoding for the HD formats (non HDMI pre-pro), lower price ($399.99 and dropping) and the 2 free movies from BB. But I will get a HDMI 1.3 pre-pro in the near future and would rather pay a little more for a better quality player as the BD30.

I actually lamented sending my 1400 back. I wanted to like this player so much because it had great PQ and SQ but with all the glitches, skipping, freezing, audio dropouts and bad technical support, I just couldn't do it anymore! I just couldn't wait around hoping they would release a new firmware someday that would actually fix EVERYTHING. I remain skeptical that they will ever get all the issues fixed.

I also have a Panasonic DMP-BD30 ordered. I think a lot of us ended up going this way because the timing of the release of the Panasonic was perfect (for Panasonic that is).

BigPines,

So you end up returning it after all. For a second I thought you were going to keep it because of the DVD-Audio support. The sad part is that I won't have anybody to complaint with

We need another option - Passed the 30 day return mark so I have to keep it but would return it if I could.

Actually now that I think about the point of the thread is to estimate how many have returned the player and moved on. So I don't think change is necessary.

Return rate so far is 52% (32 out of 62). No good but who cares. There is nothing I can do right now I'm keeping mine until I loose my patience

I had the 1400 for about 3 weeks, I loved the PQ, but there was just something that made me want to take it back. Other than than slow load times on some disc and some audio glitches (Ghost Rider after I did the firmware update) I really couldn't complain. Once going it played every disc I threw in there.

But alas I took it back before my 30 days were up to Circuit City, picked up the Pany DMP-BD30 last night and wow, Spidey 3 loaded in 10 seconds. Great PQ ,fast load times, no audio hiccups.

RIP 1400

Return it people. Or sell it.

Panasonic is just a few dollars more. Get that for your replacement.

Trust me.

Perhaps $150 is a few dollars to you, but may be quite a few to others (read: Me)

I agree 100%. But grubavs is also right that $150.00 is a good amount of money. For me it worked out to be about $100.00 difference, $449.99 for the BD30 and maybe a price match for around $349.99 if I kept the 1400. For me the $100.00 is well worth it as I could see nothing but headaches with the 1400. To me $100./150.00 is also a lot of money but for what I have invested in my system its not a huge amount.

OK, I see that. Looking at it respective of overall HT expenditure, it is a small portion. However, in my case in particular, watching movies at home isn't our main entertainment. So actually in this case not buying the panny 30 which would have totaled $488, but ordering another 1400 from Amazon for $340 with the hopes of corrective action by Samsung (not to mention the hopes of further price drops) made sense, especially considering I own a Toshiba A35 too.

No loss except the new one'll have something not in it that is required by posters... I think it's too complex for a poll. Heck, there's some folks thinking they'd spend $150 more on the Panny, not because it's less playback problems, but because it loads a few seconds faster!

Again guys the poll was created to have an idea how many actually returned the 1400. So knowing that you are stuck with the player (like I am) is not the info that we are after.
