Which, if any, of the many recent animated features do you feel are worth a look (on DVD or HDM)?

I highly recommend
Hoodwinked and Wallace & Gromit: Curse of Were-Rabbit.

Thought Flushed Away was decent but not eveyone liked it. Beowulf wont know till I see it tomorrow but I am excited.

Triplets of Belleville is an absolute masterpiece. Not merely one of the best animated films I have ever seen, but one of the best films, period.
Over the Hedge, Wallace and Gromit, The Incredibles, Robots, Hoodwinked, and Cars are all very entertaining.
Not on your list but well worth seeing is A Glass Darkly.
Also, don't forget the many masterpieces by Miziyaki (Including Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle.)

Tripletts is probably worth seeing, as it is definitely *different* especially from the modern mainstream of animation, but I for one didn't particularly enjoy it.

Miziyaki's movies are enough different from most Japanese animation that I would hesitate to call them "anime". They are really in a class by themselves.

Another movie that probably fits into this category is the french film "Immortal." Check it out if you like movies about dystopian futures.

A couple others that might also fit are Rennaissance ('06), and Final Fantasy VII (this could also be considered anime). Haven't seen the former yet. And only seen a handful of the others mentioned so far, the most recent being Ratatouille and Ant Bully.

Ratatouille wasn't too bad, and the animation looked pretty incredible in the theater. A bit on the longish side though, and some of the characters seemed a little derivative. Ant Bully retreads some of the Antz and Bug's Life turf, but it was reasonably entertaining, had a pretty good voice cast, and looked pretty decent in HD-DVD on my whimpy 34" XBR CRT. (It did not seem as "exciting" on DVD though.)

Umm yeah because of my "kid" that's the ticket!

Hehe I have watched just about all of them, but only a few I thought where decent for me that I could sit and watch 3 times in a row. It's amazing how many times a child can watch the same dang thing over and over again. In one sitting.

It's not like I saw 300 seven times all at once

yea, because of the 49 and 44 year old "kids" in this house... only 2 people who live here...

i'm not much for anime, but i do like pixar films...

probably shouldn't admit that i've been known to sit and watch actual cartoons every now and then too...

You do realize kids don't write cartoons don't you? If you ever take the time to watch most of these animations and cartoons from the past (the only cartoons I'm familiar with), you'll see many of them are written with the adult in mind as much as the child, because adults can better understand the humor they are going after. Children get into the antics; adults get the antics and subtle and not so subtle humor. Ice Age was one of the funnies things I've ever seen. The squirrel had me thinking of the coyote in the Roadrunner cartoon, one of my favorites. Cartoons and animes are definitely not only for kids. Nooooo, no, no, no, no, no.

I'm sure I watched The Ant Bully at least that many. First time I've seen actual HD on my TV though, so I've got an excuse. Some of the jokes did slip past me on the first couple viewings however. Perhaps because I was distracted by all the pretty high-definition colors.

What's the scoop on Open Season btw? The detail in the BD edition looked pretty amazing on a 1080p display at CC. Was the story/humor just not very adult-friendly?

Open Season is fine but not over all adult-friendly as it could have been. Child watched that all weekend, looks very decent at 1080I.

You will love what they do with rabbits but after one or 2 viewings..meh.

Since most of the others I would reccomend have already been seconded, I'll put in a vote for "OVer the Hedge". That movie was hillarious.

However, Madagascar and The Wild were crap. Robots was average, at best.
