Presently I have the audio out via SPDIF from on-(mother)board Realtek . Works fine.
But I want to go all-HMDI (both video and audio). ATI HD 2600 XT claims
to support that and I have the proper ATI dongle.
Has any1 done it on XP and were there any issues ?
Will I need to disable realtek ? Any gotchas ? I use WMP, Nero ST and PDVD
to play my video/audio. Will all of them work with this configuration ?
The reason for the change, outside of wiring reduction is my recent acquisition of HDMI equipped Xbox 360.
Reports on the Web claim you do get better pic with HDMI, as opposed to component HD out.
As a result, I ran out of HDMI inputs on my Onkyo, have ordered 5x1 HDMI switch and figured I might as
well go all-HDMI from my HTPC as well.
So in the end state I will have: Xbox 360, PS3, HTPC, HD STB all connected to the switcher and from the switcher to Onkyo and then to the HL-t5987, all via HDMI cables (no separate breakouts for sound).
For future expansion, I will have 2 more fully functional HDMI-ins left: one on the Onkyo, one on the switcher and 2 more sound-deficient ones on the TV itself .
