That's right, it was the AR kit, and I don't think they were with the alternative crossovers as I built these in 2000. I could listen to the center, but listening in mono is no fun

I have the MT surrounds which I'll do some listening with in 2-channel and do a write up on those as well.

I also wanted to add that the rest of my shipment is here. I think it includes the 2 surrounds, the center, the plinths for the ST's and probably the birth sheet for these as well I can't wait to get home and open these.

Every owner of the AR should be using my revised crossover. It's a known fact.

What's the cost Dennis? Do you ship them pre-assembled? Would there be advantages at low volume and near field? I think I am going to move these up to my office to be used as my speakers here. I also need a low power small amp to keep at the office.

FYI I did check your website but don't see this kit on there.

Second...having trouble deciding between SongTowers and H2s. Could anyone clue me in as to how dramatic the difference in sound quality would be between the two? Or would it just be "different" with the SongTowers getting more bass range because of the cabinet design and the H2s being a little more forward in the midrange?

i was fortunate to audition the Towers and HT2's at Jims workplace. It would have been better at his house but it was a side by side demo using my favorite cd (Steely Dan's AJA MOFI recording). In all truthfulness as a complete novice it would be hard for me to describe in exact technical terms the differences but the HT2's had deeper extension as Dennis eluded to and i thought the sound stage( depth & width if that makes any sense) was more evident.. From my limited experience the 2's just sounded different in a way that i was looking for(maybe more dramatic would be the correct terminology). As i have mentioned before if i had not heard the 2's i definitely would have purchased the 5.1 Song system. Despite the significant price differential, which i was unaware at the time of audition, i still bought the 2's because i believe that they will be with me a very long time where as the towers,a great speaker in their own right are in a position where there are several Salk speakers to upgrade to and since i had already heard the 2's and live only a few miles from the workshop i knew it would only be a matter of time before i upgraded to them. I hope to pick up the entire 5.1 system in 2 weeks at which time i will be better able to describe my listening experience. Wish i could be of more help, still in the learning mode. Will have them to demo in Mich for several months before their final resting place in Vegas. Sorry i could not be of more help

You're right--I never posted the design, mainly because a competitor of AR--Danny Richie (GR-Research) set off a major brooha by publicly criticising the AR and offering his own revision. I wanted to stay out of that one. But I do have a revision, and it does improve them. But I would be very interested to hear your reaction when you compare the surrounds with the AR's. If you don't hear what I heard, then there's no problem to fix. To be continued.

It sounds like you are talking about the same "excitement" in the music that I was trying to describe. The excitement that is in live music! I think you made a wise decision.

There is a great trio of HT2's out an outrageously good price over at agon! Somebody should jump these.

Surely you're not interested in buying, lol. I should have used the full word. Sorry for the shorthand, Dennis. Yes, it's Audiogon.

Ahhh! who needs money anyway! that looks like a killer deal. If Mud's not going to snap them up, someone else who is on the fence should:

Salk HT2 Rosewood

You know, Funk...it's because of you that I didn't. Why? I'll tell you why. You have me sold on the HT3's!! (Well...that AND finances.) Now it's just a matter of me saving up my Pepsi cans for the next 7 years......

(I didn't post the link cuz I wasn't sure it was permitted. I guess it is!)

You guys bugged me enough that I took a boatload of pictures tonight. Started with taking pictures of the boxes themselves, and then the plinths before install, and of course I tried to get close ups, all angles, samples of the wood themselves. Some of these pictures FINALLY do justice to the SongSeries speakers.

Over 50 pictures here I think I can claim the largest single online collection of one set of Salk Song speakers published

Check them out guys! Let me know what you think:

I should mention that in person these still DO look better than any pictures I could take of them. The curly maple has an almost 'irridescent' or pearlescent finish to them. Really spectacular. For a standard finish Jim has really outdone himself. I do think though that these pictures begin to show what these speakers are really about.

Great pic's , how does the center sound? The maple looks fantastic especially with the black baffle. If I didn't go with the Rosewood ,Maple would have been my choice

I have only just hooked it up. Haven't even enabled it on my receiver yet.

I'll be doing another full 'review' of these speakers as a movie based package in a few days once I've had the opportunity to watch a couple of movies on them.

Those are great pics, Chad! I completely agree that even "pro" quality photos don't do these speakers their full justice. The grain pattern and finish on my Santos Rosewood LCY SongTower's is mind blowing; pictures just don't do them justice.

Speaking of pics, I will be posting pics and a mini review soon. Jim is going to post the first pics along with an introduction of sorts for the LCY SongTower's. After his post I'll let it all out.

I wholeheartedly agree! If these HT2's are suppose to have better bass than my LCY Ribbon Song Tower's, this is the deal of a life time folks. My LCY ST's are incredible, but if the HT2's are $2000 and a superior speaker...NO BRAINER!!

RJ, if you can in any way, give them a go. Worse case scenario you sell them for the same amount or more than you paid for them. My LCY ST's have the same tweeter as the HT2's (correct me if I am wrong), and I truly feel they have that extra sparkle that you're looking for. They high frequency is brilliant! Holy transparency Batman! If you don't like them I will either save the money and buy them from you or, at the very least, help you find a buyer.
