Oh no, everyone who orders is on that thing multiple times daily. Before that meter all we had was email. No doubt Jim developed it so he could eliminate all the emails asking for progress updates and actually get some work done.

Jim states on his website that the song surrounds would make a good 5.1 system by themselves. i'd be inclinded to believe him.

As far as order tracking compulsion, I tried to limit myself to twice daily, once morning and once at night. I wasn't always successful....

I have supercharged Towers and Center with Surround Is serving as my rears. (I'm not the only one.) They're a great sounding speaker. When I first ran Audyssey XT32 after setting up my Salks the Surround Is registered as full range speakers. Pretty impressive.

And I do believe Jim, that's why I ordered the Surrounds. It's just that my decision would've been easier if there was a little more information about them floating around.

I believe that the more you check, the faster the build will go. Similar to the well known fact that if you stand on one leg and quickly move your mouse in counter-clockwise circles, it will speed up a slow computer. biggrin.gif

Thanks. I'm fully expecting them to sound great, they do use great drivers and they do have the Salk team pedigree.

^ I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase. smile.gif The SongSurrounds paired with a subwoofer or two could easily be used as mains on their own.

LOL! I don't know if the progress meter is a blessing or a curse after reading all your experiences. But be patient though, guys - the wait is worth it.

Are you saying Im not his only customer ? lol the towers sound awesome but I sure miss a center , I know it will be worth the wait

Im trying to decide if my 4520CI will power the 5ch setup or do I really need to keep the Amp

Hey Salk owners I am looking to get either the SCSTs or HT2-TLs (OR the SS8s maybe - so that I can put an end to my speakerquest smile.gif ). Would I need to replace any of my current gear to power the Salks? I have an onkyo PR-SC5508 pre-pro and Emotiva XPA-5. Would the XPA-5 have enough juice to power the SS8s/HT2-TLs?

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

LOL! You may not be the only customer, but Jim will treat you like you are.

The 150 watts your receiver puts out is very respectable, but is that with all channels driven? I'd listen with just the receiver and then again with the amp in the mix and see which (if any) you prefer. Then I'd watch some movies at a good loud level to see if the receiver flinches during dynamic scenes. That should help make the decision easier.

The Emotiva will have no trouble with any of the Salk speakers you mentioned. I look forward to seeing which speaker and veneer you choose!

That's good to know! Thanks! I have not yet made up my mind about which one to get. I will until AXPONA to make that decision I guess.

This question often gets asked, and I want to reinforce what Nuance said about power requirements - a little repetition never hurt biggrin.gif.

The SongTowers and HT2-TL are both relatively easy to drive. Dennis Murphy and Jim Salk have said the SongTowers do well with any receiver that delivers an honest 50 watts/channel, rated at 8 ohms when 2 channels are driven. If I recall, the HT2-TL is similar. Nearly all HT receivers can do at least that without straining. Of course, both of these speakers can easily handle much more power, and do sound well with it. So if you already have a powerful receiver or amps, no worries.

I can't say what the minimum power is for the SS8, but 100-250 watts is suggested, which is not difficult to achieve today.

My setup will be very similar to yours. I'll be using my Denon 4520CI to power the center and surrounds and my D-Sonic M2-800S to drive the front ST RAALs. If the Denon doesn't quite cut it for the center I may break down and get a D-Sonic mono, but for my usage I'm almost certain the Denon will suffice.

I think the Denon will be fine powering the center, but again, let your ears be the judge.

You both have really nice setups!

I'm using a Denon 4311 to power my SCSTs & SCSC and an Onkyo 606 to run my Surround Is. No problems here.

The SPL in relation to the position on the dial won't change if the gain on the amps is the same. What should change is the amount of headroom.

For all those who are going to AXPONA how about a meet 'n' greet session? It would be a pleasure getting to know each other in person. Why say guys?

I'll be there on Friday. I know I'm already meeting up with another fellow AVS member. There's going to be quite a few of us there!

I have just purchased used (2009) SongTowers "RT" along with with a SongCenter and a set of SongSurround I as a package deal.

I have no need for the SongCenter or SongSurrounds. I will be selling them as a set for $1,200 plus shipping smile.gif.

I will be receiving them early next week and once I check them out i will be putting them up for sale.

I would like to give you all the first crack at them. If anyone is interested please PM me.

Here is the info on them:

Salk SongCenter in satin black, with custom sizing so it would fit on my mantle (8" high x 8" deep x 26.5" wide) and TD binding post cups and two front-mounted ports so it can easily be placed directly against the back wall. This speaker DOES NOT have the ribbon tweeter. Retails for $845.

Salk SongSurround I"s in satin black and top ported again so you can place close to a wall. Retail for $895.

Thanks

Sean

We've been powering our SS8 mains, the SS Center, and a couple of surrounds with a Denon 4311 with no problems. For higher sound levels, hooking the SS8s into my old Hafler 500 does make a difference, but at moderate levels the receiver does much better than I would have thought.

We're also planning to be up at Axpona on Saturday. I have no doubt the Salk/Van Alstine room will be a happening place!
