Specs sound great! This movie is also really good.

Awesome! I'm really anxious to see this one on BD. What a great movie.

7.1 lossless audio.....I'd like to see every BD have one of these.

Best movie of the year IMO. Can't wait for this one.

Content is subjective obviously. I enjoy these types of films and it was my turn to pick a movie to view. The others who accompanied me basically where falling asleep!

Amen! Watching Bale and Crowe act in this one should be required training for any up and coming aspiring actor/actress. Absolutely incredible job--can't wait to own it!

One of my favorite movies of the year. I love the pacing and the whole quest aspect of the story.

And yes, Bale and Crowe are awesome, but I also get a kick out of Ben Foster's portrayal of Charlie Prince. In fact the casting for this movie is quite impeccable.

It should look great in high-def...and should sound wonderful in LPCM 7.1.

Excellent point! I should be ashamed for forgetting him. Plays an awesome villain!

It's nice to see Ben Foster getting some credit. I was beginning to fear his career was going nowhere. I guess his small role in X-Men 3 raised his profile a bit.

The decisions that the characters take in this movie are so silly and unrealistic it's laughable.

I was waiting for Crowe to take his mask off in the end and say "Bale, I am your father!" That would at least have brought some reason to his characters actions. I like the acting and everything, but the character development is atrocious in this movie.

I didn't see this in theaters. And with me being as old as I am, I think more of the original production with Glenn Ford. We actually studied the first one in film school.

So this is certainly a rental for me.

And maybe this is off topic ... but I was over at HiDef Digest and saw the write up on this release. Says it's Sony's 2nd 1.1 profile release. There's been so much noise from some folks that are rabidly enthusiastic about another HD Disc format that I'm now surprised to hear how quiet it's gotten about the fact that some of the features in these new discs may not work on the vast majority of the stand alone machines that will be out there when the content hits the street. Is this issue just dead now for some reason? Have I missed something?

I've always said all along that PIP and interactivity don't mean anything to me. But at the same time, it's not hard to imagine a customer service problem coming out of this incompatibilty (that's putting it mildly).

So my question is ... have I missed something? Does anyone know if Sony is going to do anything special to head off any problems? Are they relying solely on the PS3 to play these discs?

I have always been more supportive of HD DVD. But I have invested in BD and very much enjoy using that platform to show off many really fabulous Blu-ray Discs. So I truly am just curious. I can think of a couple rationales right now that any distrubutor might lean on to put this out:

1.) There won't be a huge number of players that will be affected.
2.) People don't really care about the features that won't work.

Both of those seem at least somewhat believable. Any thoughts from any knowlegable (I'm not) BD enthusiast?

One more thought ... to try and show my genuine good natured curiousity. It seems to me that releasing 1.1 stuff now represents Sony heading into the same kind of quagmire that HD DVD found itself in when so many of their discs wouldn't play properly on so many machines. It was a mess. Yet my Panny is a rock! Absolutely Take-It-To-The-Bank reliable. I've never had any problem at all playing a BD in that machine. But with the path they're on now (the new 1.1 releases), isn't BD heading into some of that same water that HD DVD finds itself in still?

Yeah, Ben Foster plays a freaking awesome role in this movie. This movie all around is fantastic.

Time and again BD studios are putting the HD DVD studios to shame with uncompressed and lossless soundtracks on both blockbuster and run-of-the-mill titles.

I do enjoy the specs for this disk...but I woudnt call this one of the run of the mills, I think the release date is to coincide with academy voters to get this movie in their heads for award season. I think the studio is aiming for Best Picture for this movie, as well it should IMO.
