Congrats Eric. Maintaining these threads is a thankless job. Unfortunately I have given up on the AVR thread inspired by this one. With more fields, more units, and a significant hassle to generate the spreadsheet & jpeg from the spreadsheet, it's totally disappointing to see the board half (or more) filled with the same questions that these answer. (Particularly with so many Pre-Amp guys using AVRs as preamps to get the modern features).

Yeah, that's pretty much what my eventual idea is (thinking eventual CIH setup, etc.), so, it seems as though the Denon A7100 will work in the meantime. I've been reading on the Bryston forum at AudioCircle about the trouble developing their next processor, the SP3. Noting that it hasn't been 'till after CES 2008 that they'll even get a chance to start getting the necessary chips to begin development. So, I suspect the lower end, say below $2.5k, will be a sweet spot as people wait for the highend to get things together (but still want to play with the new codecs). Though hopefully they'll be able to take advantage of the experience from the AVR people to reduce development times, and get the first set of bugs out. But, then just like the blu-ray HD-DVD battle, waiting it out may be the best course of action--though not for all of us with upgraditis.

p.s. Eric, props for getting this to 'stick', now I find it right away, and hopefully with more traffic more info will be offered.

Yeah, I saw his response to your question when searching for more on the A7100. Sound really good, but, could I really wait that long, as it would probably several months out. The A7100 is close enough right now (other than only 3 component inputs) that I'll probably go for it. But, it's good to see that these companies are reading our rants on lack of mid-range pre-pros. Certainly in the new world of forced obsolescence.

What are the latest ETAs on the Krell and Cary?

My local dealer is tight with Krell, and he recently told me that the S-1000 with HDMI Audio upgrade wouldn't be ready until June.

If Krell does delay the Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA upgrade until June this will disappoint. When Dolby Digital started being available on laser disc, manufactures seemed to embraced it much more quickly. There are many more Blu-ray and HD DVD players on the market then there were when laser disc players came out, and there were many Dolby Digital receivers and processors on the market much more quickly than the time it is taking for Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA processing receivers and A/V processors. This is disappointing.

March may be the offical date that Krell is publicly stating, but when I told my dealer I would consider purchasing the Krell if he could get me one in Feb-Mar, he made some calls to Krell to get a firm date.

He told me they wouldn't be ready in March, and that June sounded like a more realistic date.

Check with your local dealers, and see what they will COMMIT to. The date they will commit to is the important date, not the one they throw about in casual conversation. I'll be surprised if any dealer will commit to a March date.

Chip supply is going to be tight. I bet my Cary rep a donut we wouldn't see it til April or later. Same probably with Krell.

The earlier excuse for the delay was HDMI chips. It appears the current company position it is the Cirrus chip certification.

Not sure if this is old news or of any interest at all, but I spoke to the german Primare distributor today and was told the SP-32 has been pushed back due to some re-design issues and to improve quality. They're now targeting a June/July release. I asked about price and technical features (specifically the ability to decode the new audio codecs), but I was told that features are not final yet, so they couldn't tell me anything. Guess we have to wait a little longer.

Personally I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Cary Cinema 11a and the Krell S-1000 now, as I'm looking for a temporary (or permanent) replacement for my Meridian 861 (no HDMI...).

In Singapore... not that it matters to the thread. Almost grabbed one for 21 Feb due great contact through the board, but I had to re-vector.

yeah amazing really got first release in singapore ! not sure its out in japan as yet, youd think so as denons home country. cant imagine long way away for release in HK, US and the rest of the world including Oz

anyways I look forward to reading stephen's posts on how he finds the denon avp
