When you do get around to updating your first post, you can FINALLY include the HDMI 1.4 Edition of the Theta Digital Casablanca III-HD!
I recieved my CB-IIIHD, which was an upgraded Casablanca III about 6 weeks ago.
ATI/Theta also accepting orders for new built CB-IIIHD's at this point, but sadly, I believe their rather generious trade-in program for CB-I and CB-II machines expires tomorrow, along with their 1/2 price sale for the new DACs that some upgraded machines will require or you might just have wanted to add when you upgraded from any previous version of Casablanca.
As an incentive and introductory offer, the 1/2 price DAC sale does continue until April 15th, 2011 when ordering a new built Casablanca III-HD.
So for example, this would mean a $5,000 discount will still be available for the CB-IIIHD when configured with two Xtreme DAC cards, and a discount of almost $2,000 will still be available for a CB-IIIHD configured with two of their Premium DAC cards.
In any case, when two of their DAC cards are installed, mixed or matched, the CB-IIIHD will be configured for 8 channels of output, but the user can decide how these 8 channels will be used.
For example it could be configured as 5.3, 6.2 or 7.1
If even greater flexability, or if up to 12 channels of output is desired, a third 4 channel DAC card, of either of the types previously mentioned, can still be added for 1/2 of it's normal MSRP untill that April 15th cut-off date. After which time, the additional DAC card will be available for its full MSRP.
In place of the third DAC card, as an additional and very unique option, a digital output card that can actually output a digital signal for up to 12 channels is available.
It is designed to connect to Thetas external 2 channel Gen VIII DACs!
The volume of these external DACs will be sync'd and controled by the CB-IIIHD through a proprietary connection.
Typically, I think alot of users are considering using just a single Gen VIII for the front stereo pair and will continue to use their internal DAC cards for the rest of their system.
The CB-IIIHD will of course accept bitstream or LPCM to internally decode all of the newest Dolby Digital TruHD and DTS-Master Audio codecs.
I will say, IMO, the CB-IIIHD sounds wonderful and I'm very happy that I was able to hold out for it untill it actually beame available.
