$15 Philips SRP Series 7-Device Remote, 2012 Model
I just set up the Philips 7-Device SRP5107WM/17, one model in the SRP Series There might be another version w/o the /17 with a couple of diff. buttons. Newer versions of this SRP Series are always in development but they'll operate about the same.
It's ~5-1/4" long x 2" wide at top, sculpted (wavy) bottom 1" thick at base and 5/8" thick in center and at top... nice size and feel. Two circles and two rocker buttons for easy finding of keys by feel. Only the Device keys are backlit. Remembers device codes thru battery change.
It controls TV volume and mutes when using any Device!
This new SRP remote takes the place of four remotes in my main stack: 3575, 2160/513/515, Vizio HDTV, and old Panasonic AV receiver. It has codes for over 625 brands, 60 buttons max learned memory. Tivo/Replay DVR-specific buttons (blue) for those DVRs. I have cable TV, no box.
$15 at Amazon.
Check Walmart stores and online since they used to carry this remote series.
Similar? newer? model = Philips 8-device remote, SRU5108WM/27

For learning commands:
1-Place remotes head-to-head 2-3" apart.
2-Press SRP Device button, SRP light blinks once.
3-Simultanesouly press and hold SRP LEARN button and SRP function button to be taught until light blinks twice and stays on. Release SRP buttons.
4-Press and hold the OEM remote button to be learned. SRP light stays on until command is learned, then blinks twice, then off.
Make sure you hold the source/OEM remote button down until AFTER the SRP light STOPS blinking to indicate it has learned that command. Also, keep trying if a command fails to take on first try. For other devices, see special notes that might apply to you here and here.

My Device Codes:
|
• 3211 Vizio LCD TV, under TV button
• 1056 Mags, under DVR button
• 2195 Philips, under DVD button (alt. 3715)
• 2153 Pan AVR, under AUX button
• Unknown code for Vizio Sound Bar under AUX button - learned by teaching Power button with ON/Off button of sound bar remote, took several tries, then teaching Vol and other buttons from that remote
• HD button is for another of any named device.
Learned, SRP BUTTON > DVR/DVD Function:
Place remotes ~2-3" apart. Hold source button down until SRP light stops blinking. Device code sets device functions unless learned otherwise.
Top circle
• MENU > Setup/Menu... 2nd press exits menu(s) no matter how deep. EXIT button backs out one menu at a time like our Back/Return button.
• GUIDE > Title List... for HDD & DVD titles. 2nd press exits menu but still requires STOP to get completely out.
Between the circles
• INPUT > Timer... 2nd press exits menu. See notes on INPUT button below.
Color buttons
• COLORS > TV Inputs + Rapid Play + Dubbing + Rec Mode... These are "secret weapons" that can be repurposed for each device. See Color Buttons below.
Bottom circle
• ↓P/PREV > Replay... Moved PREV to CC (bottom left).
• ↑P/NEXT > Skip... Moved NEXT to PREV.CHANNEL (bottom right).
• Philips device code 2195 (and alt. 3715) made my FF/REW buttons do NEXT/PREV actions, so had to teach them proper FF/REW actions. Mags OK with their device code.
Bottom buttons
• ENTER > DTV/TV... Toggles between them.
• (-) > Erase... TOOK MULTIPLE TRIES to get this function learned properly. 1st tries only got one Title char. erase with each press, no hold & erase-all. Finally took full Erase function... keep trying. Hold source button til SRP light stops blinking.
• CC > PREV... Moved here from top-left of 2nd circle.
• PREV.CH > NEXT... Moved here from top-right of 2nd circle. Doesn't change PREV.CHANNEL function under TV Device button.
• L1 > HDD
• L2 > DVD
Buttons Under Devices I Don't Have (CBL, SAT, HD)
• Various > Little-used functions, like Rec Mode.
SRP BUTTON > AVR Function
• VOL+/- > Vol+/- ... needed re-learning under AUX Device Code for AVR since, otherwise, it operates TV volume for all Devices. You might need to do same for other separate audio equip.
|
INFO/DISPLAY (top circle) is our Info/Display function.
EXIT/CLEAR (top circle) exits menus like our Back/Return button. It gets out of Display menus immediately.
VOL +/- rocker button turns TV volume up/dn when using the DVDRs. Also turns AVR vol. up/dn after teaching it for that specific device (AUX).
With my teaching of Replay/Skip to the SRP's ↓P & ↑P buttons at top of 2nd circle, all our high-use Play-mode buttons are in the "Play" circle, an arrangement that makes playback, skip, replay, FF, etc. exceedingly pleasant! I moved the DVDR-normal PREV/NEXT, which we use primarily to move page-to-page in the HDD Title menu, to the CC/PREV.CH buttons on each end of the bottom row.
It also allowed me to teach (combine) key button functions from my separate remotes: Vizio HDTV remote's TV input select and old Panny AVR remote's Vol +/-, the only AVR function we use but not gained with the top device Code.
Color Buttons
These are your "secret weapon" in the button wars. You can use these 4 color buttons differently for each of the 7 Devices, so 4 x 7 = 28 functions possible just for these color buttons.
The SRP remote has a dedicated INPUT button to scroll the TV's input menu and select one. However, my Vizio 47" LCD has a tiny Input menu that's hard to see from our viewing distance. PLUS, the four color buttons were a perfect substitute for four buttons on the TV remote my wife was already familiar with for menu-less, one-click selection of which device (input) to watch. So, using the color buttons for TV inputs for each DVDR, instead of the native INPUT button, was a BFD here!
I used the 4 color buttons FIRST for selecting our TV inputs, as follows:
Yellow = TV Input
Blue = AV/Composite Inputs, Mag 1/2
Red - Component RGB Inputs, Mag 3/Philips 1
Green = HDMI Inputs, Philips 2
ALSO, under the Mag and Philips Device buttons (DVR and DVD), I taught the following functions:
DVR/Mags (See Tip Below)
Yellow > Rec Mode
DVD/Philips (See Tip Below)
Yellow > Rec Mode
TIP: You can "repurpose" buttons if taught under a different Device. For example, I taught the Yellow color button (normally used to select my TV input) the Rec Mode function for the Mags and Philips under their Device buttons (DVR and DVD)... i.e., the same color button can be used for the same function under diff. Devices, as long as that button isn't already used for a Device .
Some functions I have alternatives for, like Source, which I can get to with the CH buttons (numeric & CH+/-) or more quickly by pressing 001 or 002 for E1/E2 or L1/L2. CH+ from there for L3.
