Warning for Anyone Who Replaced the Main Fuse!

My help file on replacing the main fuse has had an error in it for the past 5 years!

It described the fuse type as "Time Delay" when it should have been "Fast Operating" (Fuunai's term for "Fast Acting"?).

I don't know where I got the wrong info but I never re-addressed that 4-5-year-old info until recently.

See NEW info on replacing the main fuse here... double-checking me would be in order!

Of course, the rest of us aren't.

Don't I know. I am afraid to do the math, but at HQ how many 60 minute titles can be stored?

HQ ("60 minute titles") as inquired about. "206" should have been 208.

Numbers are Funai's conservative numbers from manual.

Here's some more info.

Thanks for the info.

Now, I really hope that if someone has a 535, 533, 515, 513 or even a 2160 (?), just have to wait to the next FIRMWARE release, buy a new 1TB HD, following the instructions posted in this forum for many brilliant people, and the "magic will appear"... tongue.gif

That was expected. I noticed the model number is missing from the top title. It does appear in the lower description area. Good review.

They're all waiting for the open-box returns, aka "refurbs", to appear on J&R.

Site to store says it would be there by:
9-14-2012.

I have order 17 DVD's since 6-1-2012 at walmart.Today i got The Unkown War+ amovie my mom likes.
Everything i have orderd got there on time this year.

I picked up those 2 today at 1:30 pm today. I have bad allergies--walked right past the dvd and blu ray players.
Was the magnavox 533 or 535 sitting there while i walked by?

Thanks folks for giving all the info on these recorders.
Trying to decide to upgrade from my toshiba 430 or not.

Walmart has only carried the Mags online to date, so I expect the same for the 53x Series.

Years ago I've seen HDD DVD recorders in store at Walmart here locally. It was probably the 2160. Even then it was only one out of about 6 local walmarts. Seems like as recently as a couple of years ago you'd occasionally see a 513/515 in store, but they could have been in store returns.

Hi guys, a question:

Have a 1h 45 mins HQ movie in the HDD, obviously it can't be Speed Dubbed to a single DVD. So what do you recomend? Should I cut it on 2 parts and Speed Dub to a pair of DVDs, or just dubbed in Real Time to a single DVD...

Any other ideas would be welcome, because I guess I can try to record it on my old 2160A from the 513, and then try to dub it.

If the program came from a digital channel, and you use only the internal drives. you will probably NOT see any PQ difference if you dub HQ titles in real-time at SP rec mode... I do that a lot.

My tests on mode-conversion dubbing are here (3 sections).

Even if the program was on an analog channel, I'd try it anyway... with experience, you can look at a recorded title and tell if it will hold up thru a mode-conversion.

It all depends on the source! wajo 2012

I don't think that will happen. The file system will need to change to support the 1 TB HD. So the drive would have to be cleared in such a upgrade. Most of us would work around that if we knew about it. The general public would get really mad if they lost all their recordings.

What I do wonder is what the real upper bound is on the new file system. If they just changed the allocation units from 8 Megs to 16 megs then it would be a bit over 1 TB and not much over.

I suspect that it could be impossible to use the firmware on older models due to the different tuner.

Maybe the replacement tuner was chosen so that no firmware changes would be required to replace the original.

My 2160A suddenly doesn't seem to be outputting any video for some reason. The TV says "no signal", but I can still hear the audio fine. Not sure what happened, it was all working just a few days ago. I don't think it's a problem with the TV, because I tried plugging the yellow/red/white cables from the 2160A into the other set of inputs on my TV, and there was still no video.

I also tried unplugging the 2160A from the electrical outlet and leaving it unplugged for a half-hour before plugging it back in. But there was still no video.

So basically, no 2TB disks? frown.gif

Also, your idea is awesome: buy a 53x, then try to put it new disk into a 515 or whatever old model and watch what happens... Maybe nothing, but who knows? (234 sure knows) smile.gif

I'm confused. I get my hi-definition TV over-the-air (OTA). I do not have cable or satellite. If I buy one of these and only use the DVR functions, can I playback and/or watch delayed TV in high definition? Numerous posts indicate no. If so, what is the "HQ" recording option? Is HQ better than standard definition, but not quite 1080? The user manual specifically states the use of standard definition for DVD recording, yet the manual doesn't explicitly say that the DVR only plays back at 480i.

Bits are bits. Why not record the bits directly from my antenna and play them back to my TV when I hit "PLAY"?

I have two Sony DGH-HDD250 which are showing their age. I also have a new Channel Master CM7400, which records great, but has a lot of software issues (like hanging occasionally). I'm looking for a replacement DVR as I just gotta skip over the commercials.
