Spot boxes as bass traps?

I do not know much about bass traps, but I'm toying with the idea of making my spot boxes "bass trap ready" in some way.

With "spot boxes" I mean boxes with spots going all around the room where the walls meets the ceiling (like on the picture below):

Such boxes contains a considerable amount of air and my thought is "why not make use of it". The idea is to make several access panels along the boxes so that I later on can replace the access panel and internals to make it a bass trap.

Or is bass traps along the ceiling a bad idea?

Looks like a good use of wasted space. My only concern would be sound transmission to the upstairs (if your theater is also in the basement).
I don't know if there is a minimum amount of space required for an IB sub to work effectively.
Your question reminds me I need to start a threead of my own about IB subs.
Thanks

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding here

I was talking about bass traps, not (IB) subs

Would you believe
... English as a second language?
... that my monitor is very small and blurry?
... I haven't taken my medication today?
... I just didn't read well enough?

Stupidity Rules!!!

ps: you really did remind me to ask my IB sub question

I believe that on this forum, most people will refer to "soffits" as the spot boxes in your room.

There are several threads that have covered the use of soffits as bass traps, and I am not an expert on the subject, so I suggest to search for the two terms and see what you can find.

Many have mentioned that you should plan on filling them with fiberglass for this purpose, but I will let any experts chime in on this.
