Questions about lamp bulbs

OK, So I'm considering getting a Panasonic 200U and I have a couple questions about lamp bulbs. I do plan on using the projector for TV watching. Mostly HD stuff. And I accept the idea that if I were to watch around 5 hours a day, I would reach 2000 hours in about a year. So that would come out to about $1 a day in order to pay for the bulbs, and I'm OK with that. But I have a few questions about the bulbs.

First, I noticed that some people say that they are getting like 3500 hours out of a bulb. Does this vary with different projector models? I notice most models say that the bulb will only last 2000 hours.

Second, how common is it to actually get 2000 hours? Or is it more likely to get less than that.

Third, does turning the projector on and off really wear the bulb down that much? I mean, if I were to turn it on and off like 3 or 4 times a day, would that be bad? And would it be better to leave the projector on all day, rather than turn it on and off?

Lastly, I thought that I had read on the web that the panny 200U had some kind of thing where it turns off after 2000 hours. Is that true? and does that mean that even if the lamp still works, the projector won't let it go past 2000 hours? And if so, is there a reset switch or something that would bypass that?

I'm fine with the idea of replacing bulbs about once a year, but I don't want to have to do it more often then that. I guess there is that warrenty thing, where if it goes out before 2000 hours than I would get a replacement for free right? That would be good to guaranttee that I would get my full year of use per bulb.

I can't help you too much, but my worthless knowledge of lamps can be put to some use here. I used to work for GE and was actually sent to a kind of lamp school up in Cleveland (GE has a campus up there where they invented about 3/4 of the lamp technology used). Now, I just sold commercial lighting (non-theatrical) but I assume the lamps are tested the same way. Anyway, the instructor said that the official way they test the life of a lamp is that you fire up a certain number of lamps (I want to say it was 100, but it could be more). When exactly half of those lamps burn out, you record that as the life expectancy. So, I would say you at least have a 50/50 chance of your lamp lasting longer than the listed 2000 hours. Hope that helps (and if someone knows that they use a different method for projector lamps, please let me know).
