Cabinet size measurement (pls forgive naive question)

Greetings all,

Please accept my apologies for the newbie question, but am working with very tight measurements and would appreciate a sanity check on my math.

The 37" LCD sets I am looking at provide dimensions in their product info of about 36.2 - 36.7" wide. My entertainment center has an absolute width of 38".

Do those aforementioned measurements include the widest possible part of the entire unit, or just the screen size? I'd hate to buy, wait and attempt to install only to find that the unit does not fit.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Best,
Lewis

With your tight size requirements, your best bet would be to go to stores and measure for yourself. Take into consideration where they vent so you have room in your cabinet for that as well. LCD's get hot and need space to vent. Also some have speakers on the sides, others, on the bottom. So bottom speaker tvs will allow you more room on the sides, obviously, any may be a better choice.

These are the outside dimensions not the screen width, which is .87 the diagonal (advertised) screen size of an HDTV.

But be aware that there can be mistakes on websites, even company ones. So as mes44 says you are wise to take a tape-measure to stores. If you're not in a hurry, you might want to wait a bit. LCD flat-panels have traditionally had wide bezels, but new generations are coming in which have much narrower bezels, such as the Toshiba Rezna super-thin series. Thus you may soon be able to fit in a bigger set than you can now.

Thank you for taking the time for your responses, and especially for turning me on to the Regza line... where according to Tos' website, I can get a 40" set in their small-bezel series with a width of 934mm or 36.7 inches... the same as I am seeing for traditional 37" panels.

Very interesting, but as you suggest I am afraid the tape-measure test is called-for here. I am in no particular rush except for 1) was hoping to take advantage of some multiple-miles promotions before EOY and 2) was hoping to avoid stores until after the holidays!

Best,
Lewis
