Sanyo vs. Samsung vs. Sharp vs. Sony??

So.... I bought the Sanyo 50" Plasma @ Walmart when it was on sale. I am now thinking I should reconsider and go another way with a better quality brand name tv. I sit about 10' away and watch in a usually dark room. I am not very happy with the black levels on the Sanyo. I am upgrading from a Hitachi 57F59A 57" CRT RPTV.

So should I return my Sanyo for the

Or return it and get the Samsung HPT5054

Or I can get the Sony KDL-46V3000 46" 1080P

Any of these 3 can be had for the same price which is $300 more than I paid for the Sanyo. I have gotten a little worried about the Sanyo after reading more in the Sanyo thread. I would feel a little better with a better known brand.



Any opinions??

Easy choice here, get the Sammy 5054. You'll see a vast improvement in picture.

Yes try the Samsung 5054/64 or Panasonic 50PX75U. You can even go smaller and look at the Panasonic 42PZ77U.

My viewing habits seem to be similar to yours and I wasn't happy with black levels on my Sanyo either. But after some radical adjusting to picture levels it's looking good. HD movies look very nice along with off air signals, though SD looks poor.

When I first saw this set I didn't think I would keep it long but now I'm not sure. The warranty is a replacement plan actually. Just drop off the old panel and pick up a new one and it can be extended for another year for only $100 or something like that. So for $1100 you have a nice set guaranteed for 2 years.

you cant go wrong for the price of 1k for the sanyo 50 inch.
but today-wendsday BB has the hitachi 50 inch for 996$ i think its a better picture then the sanyo.
i myself yesterday got the sammy 5054. i love the picture even tho im in break in its still great! let us know what you decide to do.

Of the 4 brands you listed I would rate Sony better than the others. I know some people love Sharp but it is nothing great in my opinion. Samsung and Sanyo are both low end and not as good as other brands. If you want a top of the line plasma then buy a Panasonic or Pioneer. If you want a value plasma then buy Vizio. If you want a top of the line LCD buy Sony. Sharp may be okay if on sale, but I would not pay top dollar for it.

Samsung low end?? are you serious?? You cannot compare samsung vs sanyo, vizio. Samsung PQ is just amazing.

Samsung is infested with problems they have been trying to solve with firmware upgrades. If you want to spend years of upgrading trying to fix the judder and flicker issue, then that's your think. Samsung picture quality is not that great. Vizio has a picture that pops off the screen. I'd take Vizio over Samsung.

Samsung is a bottom tier plasma with too high a price. It is not worth it.

vizio plasmas are old technology. You can buy 50" samsung plasmas for around $1000-1200

I think I'll wait it out for a while. If I see the Panny 50" for the right price, I'll go with that. I definately like the Sanyo better than my old Hitachi. The picture far more crisp and clear. Maybe I should just keep the Sanyo and buy a new Reciever with the extra money instead Time will tell

That is only true if you want 50'Samsung with no TV tunner, no PC input or minimum feature.

that samsung you are referring to is a great set
i have the hpt5054 and i love it.
taking it easy on it with the break in period but i do love it alot.
get the sammy
dont let doogie make up your mind with what he thinks go to the store and play with the menus and see the picture for yourself.
pannys are also good.

I just got the samsung 5054 today. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet until I learn more about it by searching forums. inthebox, you mentioned break in period. How long should the break in period be. Sorry if I sound too noobish, it's because I am

sure thats no problem
i guess break in is between 100-200 hours
just turn the settings down
do a search for zippys thread
they have a samsung faq there about everything.
let me know what you think of the tv
