A35 5.1 Analog LFE Issues?

I have spent a lot of time searching on this forum and there is a ton of information which is very useful. However, can someone confirm if there is an LFE issue with the A35 like the XA2 has? I can't seem to find an exact answer and if there is the same issue as the XA2 (low or non-existant base with 5.1 analogs), what are the exact settings for the work around. Looking through all the threads, everyone seems to have different settings they use, but all that has done is confused me So if there is an issue with the new A35, how can I get around it? Also, has anyone heard about a firmware upgrade in the near future that will address this?

I don't seem to have an issue with the 5.1 analog outputs on the HD-A35. Certainly not an LFE issue. There are adequate controls in the HD-A35 to boost channels by 10 dB relative to one another.

Do you mind me asking what your speaker settings are in the player and in the AVR??

There is no LFE issue with the XA2, however there is a continued misunderstanding how things works by noobs and even senior members.

does the A35 boost? I thought it only dropped the volume relative to one another. So you'd drop the volume and then pump up the entire system volume in the processor. Am I just not understanding the the dB's thing? My A35 only goes from 0 to -16 (or -12).

When using the analog outs it is recommended to set the HDMI at downrezed PCM and the Toslink (SPDIF) at PCM.

The reason given for this is because each process uses up some of the main processor power. So if sending audio out all three (HDMI (which is connected to your HDTV), Analog Outs and Toslink(SPDIF) you will use less of the processing power if the Toslink and HDMI are doing less of the processing by setting them at PCM and downrezed PCM. If processor becomes overpowered because of too much data could cause video or audio stuttering?

I don't have any problems with LFE using analog outs on my HD-A35.

If you are using the Toslink (SPDIF) for audio then it is recommended to change this setting to bitstream and have your audio reciever take the DD 640 and send this to the speakers. If the Toslink is set for PCM you only get 2 channel over Toslink instead of 5.1.

But it is annoying to have to keep switching the Toslink (SPDIF) from PCM to Bitstream and back and forth depending on if you are using Toslink or Analog outs.

I have tried many of the recommended settings to try and get LFE from the analog outs on the A35 with no luck. I have an older Yamaha Receiver RX-V795 and it just passes on the signal to the speakers. So it is unable to boost the LFE by 10db. I have tried all small speakers in the A35....set HDMI at downsized PCM/Auto and the Toslink (SPDIF) at PCM and nothing seems to work. The A35 does not allow you to boost the Sub. I thought of trying to decrease all speakers by -10db and leave the sub at 0. This would require me to boost the volume level considerably on the AVR. The problem is if I do not remember to turn the volume down on the AVR when I'm finished watching the HD-DVD and decide to watch satellite, I'm sure when the receiver kicks in it will deafen me. Has anyone else had any luck using the analogs out with an older yamaha receiver?

You need to use the subwoofer amplifier's input gain control and then go back to a normal (not analog 6 channel) input and redo the AVR calibration. Read this post.

Thanks, I will give it a try when I get home. I gave the wrong yamaha model number, it should have been RX-V995. Do you know if dolby digital and DTS from SD DVD's will sound as good through the analogs as it did through the normal inputs.

Thanks again.

Hard to say for sure. But since I am such a 7.1 channel nut, that when I do play a SD DVD and really care about the soundtrack, I tend to use a Toslink input to my AVR. This is so I can force on PLIIx processing to drive the back surrounds from matrixed recovered info in the side surrounds.
