PS3 Owners With A 4:3 Display

I cannot find in the menus where to select 4:3 for display type. If this was suppose to be done with the intial setup of the player, I think I may have inadverently chosen 16:9. I don't see a way to change that now after I have gone through the PS3 menus. It allows me to change the resolution but not the display type.

I have a Tosh 50" RPTV 4:3 display. TIA for your help!

If you have a 480i/NTSC display, I'm pretty sure that the PS3 just assume you have a 4:3 television.

The PS3 can display 480i in 4:3 and 16:9, so that is not the answer.

robertc88, here it was you do. Go to Display Settings, select the connection you have (HDMI, Component etc), go to custom, the select only 480p, leaving 720p, 1080i and 1080p unselected. Select that and you should be taken to a screen where you select the aspect ratio of your screen. Hope this helps, I tried this on my TV with HDMI, but it should be the same for other connections if that is what you have.

Thanks Maynard, I'll give it a try. I know when I select 1080i after component connection, I never get a screen to choose display type.
