Rudolpht - This thread is awesome and I can only assume it will grow with info and info requests. Would it be possible to put the info in the first post into a matrix/spreadsheet type display? I think it would be easier for everyone to view and compare the feature that each AVR has.

rudolpht - thanks for the excellent thread. Here's a correction re. the Sony 910. The STR-DG910 upconverts/transcodes analog video signals to HDMI so "No Upconversion" should changed to "and upconversion of analog inputs up to 1080i"

Yamaha 861 has 2 HDMI inputs, not 3
Double check your Denon 580xCI. It's actually the 5805CI, not 5808CI and does not do any of the lossless audio formats, only MPCM.

Corrected the 861. The model is the Denon 5308CI, not the 5805CI or the 5808. The Denon link must be down. Intent is to capture new or imminent models.

Well, while I should have been reprogramming my remote (or being with family ) I did take a cut at a spreadsheet version.

Jump to 1st Post

The most helpful way to make edits would be to save off the XLS attachment make updates in red and email it back to me. This has been a much more time consuming endeavor than I considered, so anyone feel free to start a new thread with material and this one can die a semi-noble death. There are questions in a few fields it would be good to fix. Many are "yes" but I'm leaving the "?" until it's more specific, e.g., is it 480i->p w/ Time Base Correction, 1080p passthru or upconversion also and if so to what. (Only to 720p surprised me on a some of the units).

The gates are open, let the criticism begin.

Just a clarification on the Yamaha v1800/3800. They use an iChip for deinterlacing and the ABT for scaling. Also, neither will upscale via the HDMI inputs, it is strictly pass through. They will upscale component to 1080P and output that via the HDMI output. They will not upscale component and send it over the component out though, merely deinterlace it.

Correction needs to be made on the chart...The TX-SR805 uses the Faroudija chip not the Reon. It's upconversion is the same as the 605 and 705.

I'm a little confused. iChip for component deinterlace (only)? ABT for HDMI scaling (only)?

Is there a way that the comment can be reduced to fit in the remarks field?

The Marantz x001 series can all take at least 5.1 multichan PCM.

I have the SR4001 and i can verify it takes 5.1 multichan PCM. it has 2 HDMI inputs, one output. I've HEARD that the entire x001 line will take 7.1 multichan as well, but i can not personally verify this.

What about putting MSRP in the table? That way somebody wanting to buy one of these receivers wouldn't have to look them all up. Some of these are hard to find.

This thread will work until you pick a receiver then you can jump to a thread specific to it.

As someone suggested having the MSRP my help narrow for peoples price range, and with that we can figure out a recommended option.

I think it sounds like you need motion adaptive 1080i -> 1080p for the specific issue. Suggestion is to get a higher end Realta or step down to a Reon chip.

Thought this might be useful for some people shopping. The JVC RS-D702B is capable of handling multichannel PCM over HDMI. It has 2 HDMI in and 1 out. Got it for a great deal at Ultimate Electronics (which I have heard is the national price at UE's across the country) so some others may be interested in finding some info on it.

Thanks for your reply Rudolpht. I have just learned that some avr`s do not upconvert from hdmi to hdmi. I`ll be getting directv hd next week and I was wondering if you knew which " futureproof" avr`s do upconvert from hdmi to hdmi.

My understanding is that all the AVRs in the table with Yes in the Scaling/Deinterlacing column and no notes to the contrary will do that. Double check the item links for specs to be sure. Quite a number do.
