Hi All,
I am tempted to sit this whole HDM thing a while longer and enjoy my HD movies via satellite and my DVD collection. Presently I have a 50" RP LCD (720p Sony set) and my current DVD player is the upconverting Sony NS75.
Ideally I would use this player (OPPO) for both CD and DVD playback. Currently I am using Paradigm 11SE for my speakers and an older CD player. I would love to go surround but so far my wife has been exercising her veto as she says that we are already surrounded by sound!
At any rate I would like my "universal" to provide excellent CD sound quality and easy programability via its remote control as my wife likes to program playlists when she plays CDs.
Secondly I would like a player that does the best possible 720p upconversion for my Grand Wega RP LCD TV. The Sony upconverter I am using can be hit or miss and does a pretty poor job on video (concerts, TV series etc at 30 fr/sec).
As you can see this is not state of the art HT I have but I work within my budget and what my wife agrees to. I wanted a 1080p set but at the time it was another $1000 to snag one. At some point I would like a 52" or higher LCD (there is a fair bit of ambient light in the room so LCD would work better than plasma in this room):

I want to continue to enjoy my CDs and DVDs...

So, 720p performance and CD performance are the main criteria.
Should I got with: DV-970HD, DV-980H, DV-981HD or the 983 that is coming in a few months?
I don't mind spending $300 or so if the 983 would offer a better 720p upconversion and did a better job on CDs.
For the record I don't have surround sound so the DVD-Audio and SACD playback options aren't a biggie to me.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, advice, and/or input.
