Color Banding While PC Gaming - On a High Quality Panel - Ideas?

Look at the circular grainy pattern around the moon. (Color Banding) All my games have this effect on this TV while using it as a monitor. I primarily use this TV for PC gaming but doubt I could live with things like this. Well it doesnt seem to come through well on the screenshot. But its VERY evident while in the game. Is there any way to eliminate this? I am on Vista Ultimate x64 and am using 169.12 beta drivers. I have seen it on all versions of drivers. I am running an 8800GTX Here is a screenshot. I have a Samsung LNT-4069F as my monitor. Others with this panel dont seem to be having this problem

Are you using a VGA or DVI/HDMI connection?

My panel suffers from similar banding issues, but it's only a 20.1" 16.2 million colour TN, so I wouldn't expect to see the same thing on a good 1080p TV...

DVI to HDMI. It happens only while in the PC environment. (Watching DVDs via a DVD player doesnt produce this.) However, watching movies fed by the PC will cause banding as will PC Gaming. XBOX 360 gaming has NO banding. So this leads me to believe its something about the PC and not the panel. Any ideas?

Are you running your game at native rez? If not, the scaling could be a culprit there. Also, have you calibrated the display device? If not, that certainly could come into play as well. If it were just games, you might be able to just point at the game but you shouldn't see it in movies at all.

Yes it is calibrated. And I am running all games at Native res. So some games could use compression techniques that cause banding?>

What game is that? Is there a 1920x1080 32bit display option..? Maybe this is outputting 1920x1080 16bit or 8bit...?

There is no 32 bit option. The game is Crysis.

Sometimes antialiasing can introduce banding, but more likely your system is using 16-bit textures. The sky background may be one large texture, which on your settings could be loaded in 16-bit form.

Is there a way to change it to 32?

Check the "Colors:" setting in your desktop Display Settings - It should be at "Highest (32 bit)".

Ok yeah that was already 32 bit. Must be something else going on.

I loaded Crysis and looked at the moon -- I see the same thing.

I'm using a Dell 2407 high color monitor. It must be the game.
