What is the minimum Audio features I need supported by todays players (like A2)?
I can get last years model of receivers that do not have DD+/TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding but do have HDMI for less money.
The A2 only requires HDMI 1.1 audio processing, it does not need DD+/TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding. In that budget, take a look at the Sony STR-DG910 7.1, Panasonic SAXR57K, the Onkyo 604. More suggestions should be found in the Receivers forum (they know much more about this stuff than me). Personally, I bought the Onkyo 605. For $400 (on sale) I got HDMI 1.3 and DD+/TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding with good power and reliability. There are some quirks (no ability to derive 7.1 from 5.1 PCM sources), but I only have 5.1, so it doesn't matter. Most feel it is one of the best bangs for the buck around.
