The 5000 and where you stand

Ok, so it seems pretty safe to say that we should be seeing the Samsung BD-UP5000 within the next few weeks. So where do you stand on the subject? If anything, it will help us pass the time while we wait...

I myself preordered at Magnolia. I was 4th in line at the particular store so hopefully they don't get 3 in their first shipment!

I'm running out of air

I would like to get a dual format player and move my current PS3 and HD-XA2 into the bedroom. I was planning on waiting a while to have a broader selection of models and lower prices, but if the 5000 internally decodes DTS HDMA, especially for Blu-ray titles, I could justify going dual sooner. I will likely get a 5000 instead of waiting if it meets the following requirements:

- internally decoding of DTS HDMA and MLPCM output via HDMI
- compatibility with majority of BD and HD DVD titles
- much faster start-up for HD DVD than the HD-XA2

If the 5000 only does bit streaming of DTS HDMA that does really buy me anything with my current AVR.

I want to wait on final specs and reviews. DTS-HD MA will be a nice-to-have, but not a deal killer.

I already have two separate players. A dual-format player will be used to populate additional displays.

But if it never materializes, then I'll just live with what I have and get something else if something else ever appears...

If it gets pushed back one more time then I'll move to the BH200. I mean, I'm dying to give Samsung my money(as are others) but they seem adament not to take it. Wierd.

any news if the player will be able to pass alle advanced audio codecs via bitstream to a HDMI 1.3 receiver with on-board decoding of TrueHD and DTS master?
When it decodes DTS-MA internally, or is officially promised to do so, I'm sold.
If not, I'll wait for a dual format player that does and stick with HDDVD until then.

Voted twice: I have a 5000 on pre-order at Amazon, and I also own a 1400 & A35.

Canceled my pre-order from Amazon.

If I have to wait until January or Feb to get this beauty then I might as well wait a little longer for some good reviews.

I really want to know if it will do dts hd ma internally. I own hd dvd but want blu ray but I am not going to pay for a player that will not do 1.1 and not decode the hd audio internally. It has the ethernet port for hd dvd so it should be o.k with a future firmware upgrade for the 2.0 blu ray spec also hopefully. Hard to believe all those fox discs out ther and people are not able to listen to the dts hd ma soundtracks out there without bitstream support and a new avr. I got a Sony tv but sony really blundered on that one not making it a mandatory spec if you are going to have movie companies producing movies with that particular high def audio. If the Samsung has it and is reliable I will get one in the near future.

I like the 5000 but why don't they support DVD+R disks?

I think at this point it would be prudent to wait until CES to see if there is a better combo unit coming. Not a big Samsung fan and with all these delays on the 5000 I am starting to wonder if it has some technical problems. I too would prefer a combo solution from the likes of Denon.

I was strongly leaning towards the A35 and a Panny bd30, to bitstream to onkyo 805 instead of the 5000. You seem to be leaning towards the opposite, why?

I'm just waiting for a sub-$499 price. I just got into the HDM game a couple of months ago, so I can wait 6-12 months before I go format-neutral.

I had one pre-ordered with Best Buy but canceled and was going to buy separate players. Now I think I'll wait and read a few reviews of the 5000 before I decide.

Tired of waiting, plus discouraged by all the sammy blu player issues. I got the BD30 instead and will make due with my 360 add-on for the red-side (for now).

I don't have an HD DVD or Blu Ray player. But I want to see Hi-Def movies in my HT.

For certain, I'll ONLY support (purchase) a dual format player(s), drive(s), when available.
Also, waiting for a better price, & more of a true 3rd generation product.

I'm sure it'll get there.

The poll left out what I hear many folks waiting for - the adjusted discount price factoring in the MSRP drop from $999 to $799.

The poll also need a "no longer on my radar due to low-end specs" option...

I gave up and have both HD DVD and Blu Ray standalones. XA-2 and Panny BD10. I favor HD DVD so the Panny is just fine for Blu exclusives with the XA-2 pulling the heavy load.
