I'm a little confused about contrast calibration. If I lower my contrast settings to about 85/100 on my LCD TV, every bar up to 253 will visibly flash, while 255 blends into the background. However, dropping contrast to this level causes "reference white" to look dull and gray. The manual for AVS 709 recommends the highest setting available before 244 or lower start to clip, but even at this setting, reference white looks off-white to me. Other calibration discs, like Disney WOW, recommend the highest setting before 235 clips, so there doesn't appear to be a universal standard. Is it better to lower my contrast until every bar up to at least 244 flashes even if that appears to compromise the "whiteness" of reference whites?
I have the Samsung UN55FH6030 and need some settings to setup this. would anyone be kind enough to create a copy of this disc and mail to me please? I dont have a dvd/blu-ray writer but will be using the ps3 for blu-ray movies. I can pay for the postage and media thru paypal.
