Same here. I've had fw 4.0 on my Onkyo for ages now, and no problems.

Add me to the list of 4.0 enthusiasts...

To load 4.0 you have to have the disk right?

I have thought many times of updating to 4.0 on it.

I mostly use it for SD-DVD play so it has not been a real priority for me.

I updated to 4.0....

Seems fine, no issues at all. Well I did find out the player hates ISO and DVD+R's. I actually used an old MD I had laying around. You know the little CD's orphaned by Sony years ago. Worked though.

Hi,

I have an 805 since 2009, bought it second hand. It came with the "Premium Digital" 2.6 FW version.

I never had problems with the player or discs, but yesterday it started showing the 408bc504 reading error, Goodfellas and Aviator both stopped.
I cleaned Goodfellas (the disc had greasy fingerprints on it) and it got better, it played through the point it previously stopped, but later on it came with the error. Aviator didn't have any scratches, dust or fingertips.

Both discs played flawlessly before, actually all my discs have played flawlessly in the past and I have like 60 or so.

What should I do?

Clean the lens with one of those old DVD lens cleaning discs?

Update to latest FW? If so can I go from "Premium Digital" to original Onkyo FW? Where can I find the FW files?

Much appreciated.

I'm not sure that there's anything you can do. My Onkyo player and my Toshiba XA2 both give this error from time to time on certain discs (The Departed seems to be particularly problematic) and usually reloading the disc or cycling the power resolves the issue. Give the state of HD DVD, I'm just glad the players still work at all.

It's not the players, it's the DISCS. Departed, Aviator, and Goodfellas are all Warner titles pressed at the same facility.

I have an Integra DHS-8.8 which is Toshiba HD-XA2 clone just like Onkyo 805HD. Can I use Toshiba XA2 4.0 fw?
agree.I would like to think that Onkyo will offer quick firmware updates. In fact, I would bet on it P5zQBq

I updated my Integra DHS-8.8 to fw 4.0 via Toshiba disc I made from Toshiba's support page. It works without issue so far. Now it starts up showing " Premium Digital"

I hope someone is still looking at this thread.

I have the Onkyo player and I've just bought a Lumagen video processor. Ideally I would like to have the Onkyo HD DVD player output the native signal to the Lumagen so the lumagen can do the de-interlacing to 1080p.
Is there any setting in the Onkyo for outputting the native signal, or is the Onkyo always going to perform the de-interlacing?

As far as I can tell from the Onkyo manual, there isn't an option for native output, but I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Thanks.

I thought HD DVD discs were encoded as 1080P to begin with, whats there to de-interlace? especially on the 805?

The vast majority of HD DVDs are natively 1080p and the HD 805 can certainly output that resolution.

I agree...my HD805 is a sweet unit going from dual format single player to dual players. Another thing I like about it is....it's the last player of the format, so it's kind of vintage when you look at it at todays standpoint. I also have 300 disc so it's a no brainer for me to keep the unit in tip top shape.
