Hey guys,
I know, you probably all hate these types of threads, but I've got to do it. I really have very little idea when it comes to sounds equipment.
I am looking to set up a new sound system in my room primarily for listening to music. I am not looking to spend a fortune on this, hopefully in the $400 range for speakers and sub.
I mostly listen to dance, electronic, and other genres of music loosely categorized as "techno".
I currently use a Sony 2.1 bookshelf speaker/cd/radio system I bought a few years ago for my music, but I am looking for something with better audio quality (although this is already leaps ahead of what most of my friends use for their musical pleasure), and slightly smaller and hopefully wall-mountable. Some may say that a make your own system will be larger, but I have a small AVrack in the closet of my bedroom for an amp/receiver, and having a sub thats not tethered on a 4 foot cord gives me more flexibility for sub positioning as well.
Over the summer I interned installing home theater setups, so I got to hear a fair share of sound systems, although most of what we installed were in-ceiling and over-my-budget speakers. I got to hear the canton X.2 speakers which seem to fit my bill for size and price, but I was wondering if anyone else has some insight on what I should get. My room is about 14x10 feet, with a vaulted ceiling angling upward with the longer side. The vaulted ceiling goes to about 12-14 feet in the center.
Although this system will primarily be used for music, I want to have the functionality to use this system for movies/tv as well. I may also upgrade the system to a 5.1 later, just to keep that in mind. I also have a pair of CD turntables that I am learning to use. Everyone keeps telling me to get monitors if I ever want to actually DJ, but I am limited on the space I have in my room, and do not want to get speakers just for DJing.
I am wondering what speakers, sub, and receiver you guys think I should get.
Thanks
