Well, let's see. Considering your price range...and that it has to be a recorder also...I would go with the Toshiba DR-400.

Beach Camera, a reputable online retailer, has it for $119.00 with Free S&H. Here is a link: http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/prod...px?sku=TBDR400

If you need a good quality HDMI Cable that won't break the bank, go to Monoprice.com and enter the number "2412" in the Search Box. It's a 6-ft Cable for $4.79.

If you were OK with just a player, for $59.49 at Amazon, you could get the Philips DVP5982 Upscaling Player. Many reviewed it at Amazon and like it.

Tunerless. Make sure that's OK.

You're right, I forgot about that. Only other thing I can think of is the Panasonic DMR-EZ27K, but that goes for $249.99 which is out of the price range mrrjw is looking for.

Guys,

Thanks for the help. Heres what I found:

1. Looks like the Toshiba and the Samsung R160 are my best bets. I am going to start orice searching the R160 and the T 400 soon.

2. I have a Samsung 135, and I like it. It has a tuner..I think. But even though, I do not use it since I have a DVR from COX and it also messes up my Indemand channels for some reason when I run the cable to my DVD recorder first. So, all I use it for is to record from my DVRed movies to a disk...which is pretty much never since the quality is not all that great..but I can if I need to.

Also, after righting this...I think I just talked myself out of buying a recorder for him all together and might just get the 1080p player for him.

THANKS FOR YOU INPUT!!
