Need a 32" LCD that measures less than 31" across

I want to buy my mom a new TV for christmas, to replace her 27" CRT. Trouble is, the new display must fit in the existing TV cabinet, which is only 31.5" wide.

All the 32 incher's I've looked at are just a hair too wide. I really don't want to go smaller.

Any suggestions?

Samsung 3253 is "exactly" 31.5 wide .. but may want to measure at CC/BB or other B&M store.

Sony 32s3000 is 31.1 wide .. both this one and above are very good sets but check at store.

Also, are 720i .. but don't think you're Mom will mind this.

720p, i'm assuming thats what you meant.

That sony is the smallest i've seen as far as 32" goes. Your going to have a very hard time finding something under 31" wide, unless the bezel is extremely thin. I personally wouldn't pick a tv just because it's not as wide as others, but that's just my opinion.

Your options are either:

Wait until a 32" comes out that is under 31" wide
Go a little smaller, such as 26" or 27"
Use a slightly bigger cabinet

Unless that sony happens to fit in there.

EDIT: a Toshiba RF350 would probably fit perfectly if they made a 32" version, they have a very thin bezel. I doubt they are going to come out with one though, but who knows.

The Panasonic TC-32LX70 is 31.1 inches wide. The Panasonic TC-32LX700 (note the extra 0) is 31.5 inches wide. That's cutting it close, so measuring to the millimeter is suggested. It won't matter too much if the TV is placed at a slight (under 5 degree) angle to fit it into that cabinet, though, because Consumer Reports said that the TC-32LX700 has an excellent viewing angle, something none of the other tested LCD TVs could attain.

Both TVs are probably a better value than the overpriced Sony.

Thanks for the advise everyone - I went to CC and BB and measured a bunch of sets, and found most of them are actually a bit less wide than the measurements stated. For example the Sony 32M3000 specs say 32-3/8" but in reality it's just under 31"! Same drill on the 32" LG, Dynex, and Panasonic sets - they were all smaller than the specs stated. As it turns out there's a bunch of 32" TV's that will fit - now I just need to research them and make a decision.

That Panasonic 32LX70 is very compelling...
