onkyo 805....I can only hear the front speakers

Just picked up an Onkyo 805 and have all the speakers hooked up. However, I can only get sound out of the fronts when listening to music or a DVD. What could possible be wrong? I've gone through several sound fields, checked connections and still nothing. Did I get a bumb receiver?? Please help!

Are you using the HDMI? If so switch the setting to HDMI audio setting on your receiver to the opposite of what you have now. So set the HDMI audio to off and this should resolve your problem.

No...I'm using optical from both my CD and DVD player right now. Just in case, I did read already to set the HDMI audio to "NO" and did so already with no positive results.

Even in the Audissey sound level mode, only the fronts and my sub make the sounds. All other speakers are silent. Can't figure this out for the life of me.

I'm unfamiliar with your Onkyo, but is there anything in the setup menu where you have to "tell" the unit that you have addtional speakers?
If so, and you don't select "yes" or "on" for surrounds, rear surrounds, center, you'll get no sound.

I called Onkyo tech this morning......The receiver, unfortunately, was defective so taking it back for a replacement. Tech ran me through a few tests and he determined the receiver isn't working correctly.
