Would you buy this?

Right now I'm trying to build up a nice home theater set up. Prob is that I am on a very, very tight budget. So far I have an Hitatchi 42" Plasma, the Toshy HD-A2, and a Durabrand HTIB. I can hear a cooling fan going south on the Durabrand (hay, I've used it hard for the past 3yrs+ so I think it was worth the price). But I'm using this as an excuse to upgrade.

I had my eye on the new Onkyo system at CC for around $350, but that is a very large chuck of money for me to spend right now. My boss said that he has an Sony STR-DE545 system he will let me have for under $100 bucks. Sounds like he used it for 6-8 mos then upgraded his home theater.

Do you think this would be a good buy?

I thought he originally said with the speakers. Waiting on a confirmation right now.

Ok, found out that he bought a sony HTIB then upgraded to this reciever later on. But it will be coming with the speakers, subs and he even mentioned stands.

Catching some modest reviews on this over the net. Found the same reciever on E-bay for $100 w/o the speakers. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, LOL

Mods, since I found that this is really just a reciever only for the product name, should it be moved?

So I bought it.... and here is what I got
All Sony
STR DE 545 receiver
SA W303 powered sub (looks like this may be a central unit for a older surround system)
CC CN130
4x SS V130's
1 set of stands
No Cables/wires, but I have all that I need already (maybe buy a longer rca for the sub)
All for $100

Since it's so cold & wet outside, letting them all sit until the acclimate to the house environment.

This all should sound better then my cheap durabrand system I have now.

Just watched Top Gun in HD... very impressive... but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting full 5.1 surround... right now I have the HD-A2 connected to the Hitachi plasma via HDMI, then optical out from TV to the receiver.

Any suggestions?

Just figured it out... going optical from HD-A2 straight to the STR-DE545
