I found this information in the Denon brochure for thier SACD/CD player model DCD-2000AE. The major difference between "Advanced AL24 Processing" and the older "AL24 Processing Plus" is that "Advanced AL24 Processing" adds upsampling technology. So not only does it expand the CDs word length to 24 bits it also upsamples the sampling frequency up to 192kHz, so the Burr/Brown D/A processers operate at their maximum capacity. Here is the text of the brochure that explains "Advanced AL24 Processing:
" 'Advanced AL24 Processing,' the latest technology for high sound quality
The DCD-2000AE is endowed with "Advanced AL24
Processing," the critically-acclaimed PCM (CD) signal
reproduction technology that DENON developed for the
high-end DCD-SA1. In addition to the data expansion of
existing AL24 Processing Plus technology, up-converted
sampling is used to achieve natural interpolation without
losing original data. Greater optimisation in digital processing
algorithm has also been achieved for ringing-free pulse
response and for pulsive music data and attack sounds.
This enhances naturalness in the reproduction of spatial
information such as the delicate nuances in the music,
the locations of the performers, and the breadth, height,
and depth of the concert hall."
Also the following information is given on the Denon UK website:
"Advanced AL24 Processing
The acclaimed Advanced AL24 DSP processing improves the fidelity of high resolution stereo PCM sources such as CD and DVD (up to 192kHz sampling frequencies), by sophisticated DSP processing algorithms that improves low level detail and enhances fidelity by upsampling and adaptive filtering techniques. Advanced AL24 also provides increased dynamic range and spatial information, bringing out all the nuances with optimum clarity and natural fidelity."
Diagrams are also shown in the brochure fro the DCD-2000AE. Since I'm new to this website I can not post links yet. But if you go to Google and type in quotes: "Advanced AL24 Processing" there will be a link to the pdf product brochure at the Denon-bg website:
In Google there is also a link to a review of the DCD-2000AE at audioproducts. If you enter NOT in quotes: denon dcd-2000ae .pdf
you will find it.
Note that the high-end Denon DVD-3930CI Universal player also has "Advanced AL24 Processing" and uses the same D/A processers as the DCD-2000AE and sells for a lot less than the DCD-2000AE. I just bought one. Once I get it I will compair it to my DVD-3910 which has the older "AL24 Processing Plus" and post my review in this thread.
