Onkyo 605 and DTS-HD MSTR 7.1

Hi-
I have an Onkyo 605 hooked up to a 5.1 config.
I am watching Hairspray on BD, on a Panny BD-30 that Bitstreams DTS-HD MSTR to the Onkyo 605 (which is what is on the display)

I dont hear anything from the rears.

I belive that a limitation of the 605 is that it cant matrix 7.1 to 5.1, is that right?

Is there anything I can do to improve the sound (short of buying 2 more speakers)

DTS-HD MSTR 5.1 movies (Silver Surfer) sounds awesome...Hairspray does not sounds right, am I just SOL on 7.1 movies until I install more speakers?

Are there many DTS-HD Master 7.1 movies out there? more to come?
thx

Are you sure the surrounds are connected to the surround output? and not to the rear surround outputs?

yes, that is correct, since I sent this, I've heard a little sound out of surrounds, but nothing like the 5.1 DTS-MSTR movies I've watched...
I think I had it backwards, 605 cant matrix DTS-MST 5.1 into 7.1, right? so in most cases wouldnt do me much good to add rears...is that correct?

The 605 has only a single TI 708 audio DSP and does not have enough DSP horsepower to post-process a 5.1 to 7.1 by using DPL2x.. Since the 605 is an entry level HDMI 1.3 AVR.

Suggest that you step up for a 705..
Has 3 audio DSPs and will post-process a 5.1 to 7.1..

yea, and I REALLY need that extra HDMI port, wish I could unload the 605 for a reasonable price...

That's why God created Ebay!

I would love to get the 705 also, but for $250 extra I just think I will stick with the 605. I do want that 705 bad though for PCM processing and the extra HDMI input.

Do you feel that the 605 is somehow discarding the rear surround channels? Do you have the the rear surrounds set as "none" in the receiver's setup?
The 605, or any receiver, should certainly be "matrixing" any signals from non-existent speakers to existing ones (save for LFE perhaps) if properly set up.
It's tough to compare surround activity with such disparate movies, too. Although I've not seen either, I would expect "Silver Surfer" to have far more surround activity than "Hairspray".
