the *official* BD-UP5000 tracking thread for EUROPEAN users

So since there is an official thread for US people for the Sammy 5k I think now (since the Samsung spokesman told is is shipping as we speak in the US) is the time to start a thread about a EUROPEAN release date for this baby. People like me, who are in Region B coutries, want this player too!

So anybody who has some new info about a German, Dutch etc. release about the Samsung 5k let s hear it!!

I'm still undecided if I want the Reg A or the Reg B version of the 5K. If Warner, as rumoured, starts region coding their releases, the US 5K would be hugely attractive.

Cant you remove the coding?

I cant understand why buying a us version would be best, you would not be able to play rented discs at £2 a time as you can by using a b region player, after all,who wants to buy all the HD or BD discs,I just bought the blue ray Piates of the caribbian cost £23.99 whatch it once or even twice its a bit expensive, well it is to me!

There's a swedish site that sells regionmodified players. dvdirect.net (Can't post the full link because of the forum rules. Need three posts before I can post url's.)

I should have added that I own the Reg B Sammy 1K, so that would pretty much cover everything, save for 4:3 SD DVD, DVD-A and SACD (for which I have a Marantz upconverting player). For the foreseeable future Reg A seems to provide the cheapest and the best selection of BDs online, but with our local Blockbuster now stocking BD titles for rent, I agree that it would be silly not to be able to use this option.

and lets not forget about subtitles (eg. Dutch) which some people see as a must have on a BR/HD-DVD

Thought I ask Samsung support directly when the dual player will be available in Germany. Guess what they replied?! This christmas! I can not believe that. I sent a follow up question, if this really true (no one knows this player in stores yet, left alone amazon.de) and what the price tag in Germany will be. I am really curious what the answer will be....

For those who understand german - here is the original mail I received:

GutenTag Herr xyz,

vielen Dank für Ihre Anfrage.

Gerne koennen Sie uns bei Rueckfragen erneut ansprechen.

I have ordered mine at komplett.nl, at least I believe so. They expect delivery around 14/1/08. The only thing is they are still calling it BD-U5000 (old name).
