Looking to get a new AVR soon to power Ascend speakers that I will soon own, I don't think my almost 7 year old Sony will cut it. I have always liked Onkyo AVRs in terms of features for the money, they also have a high quality feel to them. I was planning on getting the 605, which is $470 at Crutchfield, but the 705 is only $650 (although it is out of stock now, but I can wait). To be it looks like the build quality is significantly better than the 705 and it does have the THX Select2 cert, not that I really put much stake into that, but I figure it means something as far as build quality is concerned. Other than that is offers 10 more watts per channel (like it matters), and some more inputs, including another HDMI (important to me) and optical which is also important to me, plus a full set of pre-amp outputs.
To be it seems worth the extra money, plus it is a jump from an entry level Receiver to a mid-range model. What do you guys think? Any happy 705 owners out there? And I wonder if Onkyo has new models coming out soon?
