Lorddef, thats the beauty of the panny. Push the button to go back to 16:9 viewing and it re-zooms the image. Your bars are now on the left and right, and the image fills the screen top to bottom. Add some masking on the left and right for 16:9 viewing if you don't like the bars.

You can do all of this with old machines to, but you are manually zooming and adjusting for each different aspect. With the panny you do it once and store the settings in the machines memory. Then it is just a press of the button away.

A couple of coats of mud on my procenium and cut out for the built-in behind the bar shelf. Will be starting in bathroom this weekend.

Chairs showed up on Wednesday. We got them unpacked and installed in the space. I still need to hook up the buttkickers, but I won't have amps for another month.

Here are some photos of the chairs:





Today I got the door stop installed and the remote programmed initially. I also got the handles on one of the doors. I still need to stop by Lowe's and pick up two dead handles for the stationary door, and drill out holes for the flush bolts. Then another coat of paint and the doors will be wrapped up.

We'll see how much I can get done tomorrow,

Nice chairs. I have 7 of the exact same ones sitting in boxes waiting for the carpeting to get installed.


How close to the rear wall is the back row?? Looks awfully close to me. Are you concerned about the close proximity of the rear speakers to the back row occupants? I was, since I only have about 2 feet between their heads and the speakers, so I decided to go with the DSX Wide speaker arrangement instead of the standard 7.1 rears. Obviously, I haven't installed them yet, but I'll let you know how they go.

My rear row is just about right up against the back wall (very similar to CJ's, including the 3-4 arrangement), with a 7.1 set-up using Axiom quadpoles (sides and rears) and I can't notice any difference in sound whether I'm seated in the front row or the back. Neither can my guests. My speakers are a tad higher on the wall, but they're slightly angled down to compensate.

The pictures don't seem to show it well, but there's almost 30 inches behind the back row (to the wall). I'm considering going with quad poles for the surrounds.

Oh, yeah, the pictures don't look anywhere near 30 inches. But that's okay. Still, 30 inches is pretty close (although not quite as close as mine). All this talk about dipole and quadpole surrounds really has me thinking I should do the same. Even though I'm not currently planning to use the back wall surrounds, the 5.1 rears may be too directional to cover everything. I'm probably looking at another $400 in multi-pole back surrounds when all is said and done, I'm afraid. I've read some good things about the Emotivas and the Axioms.

Are you concerned at all about the timbre match with your other speakers? Or are you going all-Axiom?

I have a 7-speaker set of the Energy RC series. Basically all matched. I wonder how the Axioms would match up with them as surrounds.

I'm looking to update all of my speakers. I like their mains, the larger center, and I really like their surrounds. I'm just stuck on the sub. I was something with a great punch, but I don't want to spend a lot of coin.

I'll make a decision in the next week or so.

I'm not convincer that the front speakers and those in the rear need to be exactly the same (or that the timbre needs to be matched). I know it matters across the front soundstage, but I'm not sure about the front and rear matching.

Like Big suggested, I'd go for a THT sub if you have the time and resources to build your own.

Otherwise, you might look into an Epik or eD sub. I have an eD A5-350 and it thumps pretty hard. I had it on 1/4 gain and I thought the house was going to shake apart.

Maybe we should do a group build and get an assembly line set up.
If we could get HeyNow to kick in his mammoth shed we could open a factory. But I'm only going out there if he installs AC.

Also, I just placed an order for a dozen clamps, a man can never own enough clamps, Every project is an excuse to buy more.

When I ordered my Axiom's about 5 years ago, I gave them my room dimensions and such and Axiom told me I'd be wasting money on Q8's all around and advised me to get Q8's for the sides and Q4's for the rears. Thought it was pretty nice that the company would actually talk me out of spending more money with them.

Good call on the THT. You will like it/them. Huge clean output at a low price is a good thing. As good as the THT is, I have had just as many compliments on my TLAH fronts and they cost $30 each.

I'll second that. That's what they recommended when I order the same speakers for my previous home. The rear channels just don't produce much sound 99% of the time. Last I heard there are only around 150 bluerays that offer 7.1 and the number is not growing rapidly.

Thanks guys...it feels like a great movie space. I'm still in the process of outfitting the equipment, but I've settled on a set of Axiom speakers:

M60v3 - Mains
V180v3 - Center
QS8's - Back and side surrounds

I understand about the surrounds and the lask of material for them. In the end, I went with QS8's all around due to aesthetics (they all will look the same). The sub is still TBD. I may try to tackle the DIY sub this fall. In the interim, my 12" Polk will have to do.

I think I'm in the sweet spot right now!

Why the center speaker? You really want to go for three identical front speakers. This whole "I need a center speaker" is a compromise solution created for the TV/non-AT crowd. With your AT screen why screw with your acoustic performance?
