im thinking of signing up for either BB or NF as i am about to get an HD Disc player i would mostly be renting the HD titles so i am wondering for those living in Des Moines / Altoona area of Iowa how is the service, speed and which one would you recommend.

I live in Marshalltown, and my Netflix movies are sent from Des Moines. For me, I send a movie back one day, it arrives at the shipping center and a new one is sent the next day, and on day three I get my new movie. But if you are closer to Des Moines, it could theoretically be faster

I've only had my HD player for a month, and I have noticed a 'short wait' listed for the HD movies - mainly new releases. But that is probably due to the fact that we live in Iowa, and HD movies aren't in high demand! When more people want to rent the movies, hopefully they will have more to send out.

I've never had any real problems - I've only had two movies arrive scratched, and Netflix sends a replacement pretty quickly.

I've never tried the Blockbuster service, as we don't have a Blockbuster in M-town. I admit, it would be pretty convenient to be able to return a movie and get another immediately!

Hope that helps a little!

I am in cedar rapids and have always got my movies on the 2nd day from Netflix. I return the movies on Monday and get a new one on Wednesday but I think they have a local center so des moines might be different. Its not bad for HD..I didn't get transformer on the release date but got it within a week.

depends on which flavor of HD you have. blockbuster doesn't carry blu-ray in store (perhaps i'm wrong). i live in ames and can easily get 2 movies per week from netflix, especially when i drop them off at work in DM.

Hey, Marshalltown is where I grew up!

I only get back there about once per year, as I now live overseas in South Korea.

When I visited last summer, Ghost Rider was the only title available in Marshalltown (at Wal-Mart). I could get some discs in Des Moines at Best Buy, but they were overpriced.

Is there any more HD available in Marshalltown now? I own a PS3, but plan on getting an A3 in January when I go to Hawaii.

Do Toshiba A2's or A3's sell for a good price anywhere around there? Did you guys ever see players off of the $98 deal last month?
