So Chu, you have never actually purchased from this company?

Well that's one of the reasons I always wanted eD to stop ignoring their issues and get their $#@! together. If it wasn't for their QC problems and inexplicable decisions to screw some customers while bending over backwards for others, they would definitely be one of the best values on the ID market. I would probably own two more eD subs if they had ever actually bettered themselves. The good news is that right now Power Sound Audio is right on schedule to fill the "best bang for your buck" void.

So it looks like my A2-300's amp is acting up. It works fine when on, but when it auto-shuts-off, it keeps flickering between off and a partway-on state (the light is either red or off, not orange or green) and I can hear it click or 'flicker' inside.

I emailed eD but haven't heard back. It's outside of warranty, but I thought I remembered that they did cheaper replacement amps for people in my situation, does anyone know about that? Also, if I decide not to get a replacement through eD, is there any other plate amplifier that would offer 200 watts for a decent price that's also available easily in Canada?

Thanks!

I wouldn't mind knowing where I could get a 500W plate amp to replace my LT/550 in my sub. There is something fried on the board.

I don't think they're in a strong financial position to help out other than selectively and often with great delays. Although they offer warranties, when they source their drivers and amps, the suppliers generally don't have warranties and most certainly not 5 year ones. ED as a company is small potatoes and cannot command any leverage when things go wrong. So when they buy, they buy a little extra in anticipation that a certain percentage of customers will have problems. That's a cost that's built into the pricing structure but if that percentage goes up (remember the MFW amp fiasco?), that severely cuts into profits. Couple that with the fact that Chinese suppliers are requiring larger minimum orders along with the general economic malaise as well as having to pay up front for parts (no more terms of credit frown.gif) and ED finds themselves in the mess they're now in. If they honor the warranties, then there's no parts to build product. IMO it's not they set out to be disreputable but in order to stay in business they find themselves in a situation of borrowing from Peter to pay Paul except I think it's more dire than that.

My reading of the warranty (not for the amp bought separately) is that the sub is warranted for 5 years.

What? Who is power sound audio? BTW, I am waiting for the parts and crossovers for my new center channel and as soon as that is done I want you and your brother to come for some fun!

http://www.powersoundaudio.com/ I ordered a pair of XV-15's. These guys are from SV!

There appears to be a new stall tactic in play - creating shipping labels and telling customers their replacements will be shipped "today", and then never shipping. I'm starting day 7 with no updates to status, awaiting a replacement amp that was initiated back in January.

Hopeless.
Are you supposed to be getting the same amp or something from a different vendor?
Well, I'm hoping for a replacement, but I wouldn't put it past them to send me the same one back.
Mk, I think if something goes wrong with your gear purchased from eD.... they will do a good job fixing it for you. You'd be a PR nightmare for them if not taken care of. I honestly think that eD is playing damage control at this point... and taking care of you would be a high priority. I have plenty of eD gear in my home right now, and don't expect to be taken care of if something goes wrong. I already have had multiple amps and driver issues since I've been a customer... and have decided to go elsewhere when more crap hits the fan.
I hope you are right and wrong at the same time.
Still no response from eD. I wonder if I am better off cutting my loses and buying a replacement amp elsewhere.

Parts-Express amps seem to be a good replacement for the eD LT amps. They seem to be much more reliable than the eD amps and are priced good and usually in stock all the time compared to eD. Check out the measurements and see if it will just drop into place in the existing cutout.

wow, what a drag to read this is continuing ...

OTOH, wrt PowerSoundAudio, I do appreciate the heads up, duly bookmarked...

Did you email Matt that chimed in earlier? I have received several responses from him regarding my sub, but I am looking locally to see if I can get it repaired.

Is this a warranty issue for your sub and what's the nature of the responses?
No older sub stopped working, I upped a pic in an earlier post, something burnt out on the board. I was going to use ED until I saw this thread and how things have gotten. I filled out an RMA but it never updated so I emailed Matt Tower from this thread and he has replied a few times, this was the latest Friday:

David,

An LT/550? It must be an older A5-350 then. The good news is we have parts to repair that amp here in house. We stopped production on that particular amp, so new ones aren't available.

Would it be possible for you to take the amp out and send me a pic of the internals of the amp so I can get a good visual? That would be extremely helpful!

Thanks.

I am going to try and see if a local repair shop can fix it, otherwise I think I'll look for a replacement plate amp and see if it will fit the opening.

I figured I may as well post in here my experiences with my ORDER (not warranty)

6/30 - Order placed for A7s-650 DIY kit with LT/1300 amp (the amp was backordered so I didn't expect it to ship right away)
7/2 - Credit card charged
7/3 - Alex emailed me to confirm I wanted to ship this thing to the Canadian adress (I have a U.S. one listed on the account so I appreciated this gesture)
7/24 - I sent an email to sales@ed to ask for an update on the order
7/25 - Alex replied, saying that they have been out of EFS for a while and expected to get some in tomorrow and that they will be cutting more cabinets to ship my order "very soon"

~8/2 - Still waiting

Honestly I'm in no rush.. but I was kind of shocked that a company that builds just speakers/subs, runs out of the material they use to cut cabinets.

edit: + a bit miffed that they charged my CC so far in advance
post #14480 of 15422
Actually you guys think they give me special treatment, my drivers and wood took much longer than that.
They run out of material because they don't have money to buy it. I would assume they've taken your money and used it to fulfill older orders. That is unless they're using it to pay outstanding bills.

Don't be surprised if you don't here anything back from them for quite awhile. They just used your order as a cash advance to play catch up to the orders that have been in wait for a long time.

I just browsed eDs forum and seen that ChopShop still hasn't received his stuff yet and its been March, that he placed the order and started the thread. Latest excuse is a bad paint job (7-13) still no updates. No way could I have given a company that much money and not receive anything.

I've had an order placed for three custom C12's since April.I've been very patient and spoke with Alex a few times, talked to him last week and was told my order would ship out the middle of this week.I called several times this morning and got no answer,I left a message but no one called me back.I finally got through to Brett and he put me on hold to check the status, then he came back and said he would call me back in 40 minutes.I haven't heard back from him or Alex,I'm really not surprised though I had a feeling he just wanted to get me off the phone(Alex did the same thing last week).I called back and now I get a message saying their mailbox is full so I can't even leave a message.I saw that Alex was online on the website and sent him a PM to call me but he hasn't.I wish I had never dealt with these guys, unfortunately my order has already been paid in full.I was quoted five weeks and it's going on fifteen now.

Well corey I would contact your credit card/bank and have them proceed with a fraud claim to get your money back asap. If not you could be SOL and out of your money. It seems very possible that you'll go to eDs site and it will be no more.
Yeh, the credit card fraud route worked for me. This is clearly a company in its death throes.

Just to share you guys the nightmare dealing with eD. I bought the A7s-650 kits back in 2010 and shipping is done within 1 month which is all good. I encountered problem with one of the driver and although they keep on insisting that I blow the driver, but my further investigation proved that it is the hot glue overflow on the spider that cause the tearing due to imbalance movement of the woofer. They want to charge me for shipping cost which is around USD100 (I'm from Malaysia) and as desperate to get a working sub, I agreed to it. All work out fine for 2 years without any problem and I want to go for dual identical sub. So last year Dec I paid them through bank transfer for eD Cinema speaker and another subwoofer kit. Until today, I haven't received any of the above items. I would expect that they at least shipped me the speaker first if they running out of LT1300 amp but no news. Email went unreply and I have to get an answer by posting in their forum. For the past one month, I had been trying to contact them and get a confirm shipping date, always promise a delivery but just an empty promise. I do request a refund but Alex try to convince me that shipping is out soon but frankly, I'm loosing my cool here waiting for the product. It's no excuse to delay for 8 months + while other get their product first.

I would warn anyone who want to get any product from them to watch out on the above point especially if you are from oversea. I like their product but their way of dealing with customer is going to kill them. Now I just want a refund.
Man, just when it seems bad you read all these stories... Clearly these guys are doing exactly what others have said, eD is low on cash and using future order money to pay for orders that are already significantly behind on... It is all going to catch up to them soon and it is going to hit them hard. I mean people are waiiting 5-8+ months for an order to be fulfilled? That is crazy...

Honestly, for those of you who continuously are being told that your order will "ship anyday", demand a refund now, and if you don't get a response file a credit card dispute immediately.

If you ask them to cancel the order and refund your monies, you'll be waiting a long time. Since you're in Malaysia, they'll string you along and hope that you feel frustrated and so hopeless that you'll just give up. However, even for people in other countries, there are approaches you can take. You can file a complaint with The Internet Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx) seeing as ED is an internet company. That's a partnership with the FBI and may prove to be effective.

Chu-

Typically when I see Paypal listed as a payment option for a particular vendor (as in the case with eD) I tend to think they must be somewhat reputable. Is this foolish thinking on my part, and at what point would Paypal dissolve their affiliation with such a company? I was stiffed by a shady ID company once and filed a complaint with Paypal. My money was refunded in 2-3 days and I noticed a few weeks later that Paypal was no longer listed as a funding option on that company's website.
