Epson Home Cinema 1080 lamp replacement

Hey everyone... I just had a quick question about the lamp on my HC1080. I'm starting to get on-screen messages telling me to replace the lamp at about 1650 hours (it's been running on High). I know its rated at 1700... but I'm curious if once it gets there, does the projector refuse to turn on? Or does the lamp just start to dim more?

I'll be ready to order a new lamp soon, but I'd like to get as much use out of this one as possible.

Thanks!

If you're interested, I still have my spare. Selling for about 1/3 of what they go for. Decided to go DLP.

Yea that would be great! Is it still unopened I guess?

Looks like they're about $350 retail, so about $120 then?

It's been opened. I posted about my experience with the 1080 a little while ago on the 1080 thread. Epson sent me the bulb because of a buzz with the lamp on one of my units. I was trying everything to fix the uniformity as well, and the bulb had an impact on that also. I tried the spare in a couple of the replacement units. Has MAYBE 10 hours on it, but probably closer to 5. Have had a bit of interest, but no one has taken it yet. One century bill would suit me, as I have zero need for it now. I was asking 200 before, but with the holidays coming, I could use the extra coin.
Let me know.

That sounds good... I'd definitely take it for $100. I'm assuming that you found the problem with color uniformity was due to the projector, and not the bulb?

Just checking

How do you want to go about payment? I've never really used Paypal or anything... should I just send you a check? And I can add a bit to cover shipping costs too, if needed.

Thanks again

The uniformity issue was, in my opinion, due to the lens. I was projecting from 20 feet back and zooming in almost all the way to a 92" screen. Each time you could see the uniformity getting worse as you zoomed in. It's been mentioned in the thread by a few others as well. I think as long as you're projecting from closer it's okay, but I needed the long zoom. I went through a good # of units and all had the same problem.
I've never used paypal either so a check is fine. I'll message you my address. No need for any extra for shipping, 'cause I'm sure it'll only be a few dollars. I'm happy to get 100 for it, and a fellow AVS'r gets a spare bulb cheap.
thanks

Oh, and the uniformity was the best with this bulb.

When you say "as long as you're projecting from closer it's okay", are you referring to the HC1080 model in general, or just the (defective?) lens on your unit?

My setup is similar... 20 feet back projecting to a 144" screen. Probably way too big to get the absolute best image quality (black levels, mainly), but I've been very happy with it.

Or were you saying you'd only recommend me using your bulb if I was projecting from closer than 20 ft?

Sorry if I didn't understand you correctly.. but anyway I got your info, and if you think it will work fine I'll get a check in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks!

Wow, 144", that's big. The uniformity would be fine projecting an image that big from 20 feet. Your set-up is about the same as projecting a 92" image from about 13 feet, and that's what I meant by being closer. Smaller screen size from closer distance. You have the lens open a good amount, and I had it zoomed in almost all the way. I would have kept the pj if I could project it from that distance, (13 feet), but it would have been smack in the middle of my living room. The bulb will work perfectly fine for you. The issue lies with the lens at certain distances, in my opinion. And this was also only for the units that I tried. I'm positive that there are great units out there with zero uniformity problems.
There'll be nothing to worry about with this bulb.

I had the about the same setup, about 19 feet from a 92 inch screen, and went through 3 units, all had the same issue as described above, although all were earlier production units. I finally moved the original pj up to about 11 feet from the screen and no issue with uniformity at this distance. As a side benefit, the pj is brighter and sharper. So, I think as well, this is a lense issue, perhaps an element that goes askew when zoomed out.
