Enough with all the clutter (graphics) on my HD screen! - Page 86

Well, The Hub has an irritating new logo. Someone please tell me this is temporary!

This is much more offensive than their previous one:

This was actually one of the less annoying logos on cable. Meanwhile, in Japan, networks seem to be going the other direction... Fuji TV's logo is almost non-existent:

I am also irritated by the logo National Geographic has changed to in recent months. It went from being a reasonable, fairly transparent to obnoxious bright yellow with bonus text spam thrown up on the upper right corner constantly:

Here's their old one for comparison:

I used to be impressed with National Geographic being one of the last holdouts of non-spammy, transparent logos. I guess News Corporation had enough of that...

I have no problem with a channel putting up a translucent or "crystal" logo most of the time, and simply making it solid for a moment, at Station ID times or after a commercial break. But, if they're trying to "watermark" their shows (copyright purposes??), then just put it in the middle of the darn screen and I'll watch somebody else's channel .

Giant show spam text is back on NatGeo Channel.
It's 100% white text on the top right of the screen.
Take it off the screen!
They have also add show promo snipes on the bottom left.
It's shame because NatGeo used to be good at not spamming the screen.

I've mentioned this before on many a site but I'll mention it again.

Are you tired of seeing ads that OBSCURE the program you are watching? DON'T PAY FOR IT!

Are you tired of 100s of channels that show the same programming? -DON"T PAY FOR IT!

Are you tired of having to watch over 20 minutes of commercials per hour" - DON'T PAY FOR IT!

Are you tired of seeing "Adult Products" (Such as "ED Pills" aire at time WHEN CHILDREN ARE WATCHING (Or even DURING CHILDREN'S SHOWS themselves?) - DON"'t PAY FOR IT!

A SUBSCRIPTION REBELLION is the ONLY thing these buffons will listen to! In the past year 2,000,000 people have "Cut the Cord" and seeked their programming elsewhere.

JOIN THEM!

I can't see how people can pay money to watch TV like this either. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie that had commercials and screen clutter in it thanks to DVDs and Netflix.
I chop all commercials out of programming prior to viewing. I don't really mind hundreds of channels showing the same programming because having numerous tuners and clever scheduling allows for recording enough unique content than I would ever have the time to watch.

My biggest problem is the channel logos. They are difficult to remove.

I don't watch movies on the crappy movie channels like AMC and Hallmark Movies. If it's on Blu-ray, I watch it on Blu-ray. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of movies available in high definition exclusively on HDTV channels. There is no way I would ever watch a crappy DVD. The other movie channels like HDNet Movies, EPIX, HBO, Showtime, Starz, and MAX are much less annoying when it comes to things like logos. They also air everything uncut.

You just have to learn how to beat the system. I do hope other, less competent people get fed up with all the commercials/spam/etc and send a message.
I have a hard time believing you are beating the system when you are paying for HBO, Showtime, Starz, and MAX on top of the regular HD DVR pay TV bill.

Verizon's FiOS includes all of those premiums in the "Ultimate HD" package which you can get 35/35 Mbps Internet connection (with no bandwidth caps) and just about every HD channel on their system for $115 a month.

Also, who said anything about renting cable company DVRs? Those are awful. It's all about the CableCARD and Ceton InfiniTV 4, baby.

I mean, I can see why people stuck in Comcast/AT&T markets with their garbage bandwidth capped Internet connections, over-compressed HDTV channels, awful channel selection for like $150 a month would be pissed off. And especially if they wanted to add on all the premium channels. They'd probably be looking at $200+ a month which is outrageous. But the multichannel model still works very well in Verizon markets with their good bundles.

Considering the quality of what's currently being offered on Pay-TV, that's $115.00 a Month MORE than I'm willing to pay!

And I can't remember the last time I ever got any non-local topical or live, non-locally broadcast sports programming on DVD or though Netflix.

Whaaaat??

I can't remember ever seeing any "ED" commercials during any actual, dedicated children's programming. Why in the heck would the manufacturers even advertise that kind of a product on them? The others are all justifiable, but that one doesn't even make any sense.

That is what I use my antenna for. This Saturday I'll be watching these games in HD for free:

12:20 Alabama vs Kent State channel 24-1 SEC Network
12:20 Virginia Tech vs App State channel 24-2 ACC Network
3:30 Min. vs USC channel 24-2 ABC
3:30 South FL. vs ND channel 41-1 NBC
8:00 Oregon vs LSU channel 24-2 ABC

P.S. We got MeTV on subchannel 58-2 last week. They show classic TV 24/7 with no Reality shows or paid programming. So take that TV Land.

Seconded

Paying $100 a month for TV these days is like paying $100 a month for pot luck.

I guess you don't like having Internet access either.

I am watching Billy the exterminator on A & E hd. It only has A & E at the bottom of the screen. Is A & E only using an hd feed like espn?

I started to watch Cocaine Sub Hunt on the National Geo Channel and turned it off after about 5 minutes. The graphics (same as in the screenshots a few posts up) are just too much and too bright.

It was bad enough when it was the subtle watermark- now these channels are going full color with full brightness.

I left feedback via Nat. Geo's web site, but I have no doubt that their response will be "don't let the door hit in the a** on the way out."
Nat Go Wild is using the same annoying solid text at the top right and solid bug on the bottom right.

That was TV Land's response to the complaints on their forum on the Programming comments board. Plus there were so many complaints they shut down the Programming comments board. I now get MeTV and This TV for free OTA and they show no reality shows or paid programming. They put TV Land to shame.
Hey folks, just a reminder if you can get it: National Geographic HD On Demand still has the old transparent logo and the no spam in the top right corner. Also, the bitrate is higher. Unfortunately, there is not much content on it.
Even TV Land is showing "reality programming" now, too, as cheap as all those old sitcoms are for them?

Jeez. If true, that's pretty bad.
NatGeo TV goes from decent to bad to worse in a matter of several years. Their magazine still is able to hold the quality, I guess because the readers and the viewers are two vastly different categories of NatGeo's customers. Hence, I receive my monthly NatGeo magazine but I do not watch their programming anymore.
News Corporation owns 75% of National Geographic Channel. I doubt it is the NatGeo folks who want to do this. This seems like something Murdoch has his hand in.
MeTV uses a bug- it's on one of the low-power stations here and I don't get it at home, but of course I don't miss it. "This" has got to be the worst broadcast channel out there as they not only have their bug on but under it put the name of the city or area the station is from. The one near me says "This Sacramento" and a neighboring station says "This Bay Area".

We do have "Antenna TV" on a fairly strong station and they use NO bugs or graphics during their shows whatsoever. Only problem with them is the station here uses a ridiculously low bitrate, and they waste a lot of time showing cut-for-TV versions of movies when they could be showing more old shows instead.

TV Land has been showing reality shows for several years now. The ones they show are some of the worst. They showed one called "The Cougar" which is about a 40 something old hag competing for a 20 year old boyfriend. I saw a commercial about it and it was totally disgusting. The few classic TV shows left on there they keep showing the same group of episodes over and over. Back when I canceled my cable subscription in 2008 they showed the same episode of Three's Company and Sanford and Son 30 times. I looked at the TV Guide and found out they are still showing them today.

Adding to the bad PQ and DD 2.0 audio, the NFL Network is now spamming the screen on the top right during a game replay.

Here's a sample of the disgusting spam text on NatGeo Wild.
That looks like upscale.

I guess the dreadful bitrate and 720p resolution wasn't enough.

I wish Animal Planet still showed programs about animals.

Also, lol @ NFL Network. This is the channel everyone's been crying about? Loaded with commercials, stereo audio, horrible picture quality, and now they're spamming the screen with ads?

They want 75 cents per subscriber and to be on every tier. That's why Time Warner isn't caving to these bastards. HDNet & HDNet Movies not only have no logo/unobtrusive logos, they have no commercials and no "upcoming" spam text and the combined cost of the two together is the same as the NFL Network.

What a rip-off. Football fans are the worst.

When I see what they are doing these days all I can say is thank Heaven I no longer watch (or pay) to view this garbage!

You don't appear to be a football fan, so clearly they are not the same thing.
