Enough with all the clutter (graphics) on my HD screen! - Page 97

Showcase in Canada is just as bad when it comes to ad snipes. The first episode of Continuum has a large ad for cell phones. And it covered a lot of the action.

Their regular snipes are just as bad and just as large.

Yep, other sources are a must these days. The clutter just tells me to go elsewhere, and I do.

The useless text on the top of the History Channel programming is embarrassing.

But there's one corner of the screen left. Surely they can find some important info to put there!

The web address.
The name, address and telephone number of the SFBs who's in charge of that stuff there.
That channel is a joke. About 5% of the programming these days is actual "History" - they should change the name to "The Garbage Channel"
Basically History Channel 2 now is what History Channel was intended for.

You can say the same thing about 90% of the rest of the channels.

I am glad I am not the only person that finds this stuff completely annoying. Discovery does it too with some of their shows.

This just screams to me cut the cord. They can cover subtitles or other text that is part of a movie, as you can see here. I hate snipes!!!
I've cut the cord months ago on all of the (otherwise, quite good) docutainment channels.

I got tired of paying for that junk back in 2008. I hooked up an antenna and most of the channels I get for free are no where near that bad. Like the big 4 networks, PBS, and MeTV.
Here in Canada snipes are becoming more common, especially on Shaw Media specialty channels. Over the last few months I have sent emails to the broadcaster and various government regulators with no success. I have had pretty good results from writing (email) a short note to each of the companies featured in the snipes as they begin airing. I have received replies from almost all of the advertisers and have noticed that most of them no longer air, only to be replaced with different products. So my campaign continues. I really cannot stand these snipes and this is my way of dealing with them (short of taping a piece of cardboard to my tv screen). I cannot go OTA due to where I live and am at home a lot with the tv on so I see a lot of ads. I believe, as others have stated here and elsewhere, that the television viewing experience is rapidly declining and, just as the internet has ended up cluttered with ads, so too will our tv screens in the near future.
It's been over five years since I stopped paying to watch ad-infested television. From what I've seen since I "Cut the Cord" in 2006 I have seen things go from bad to worse. I do not miss them at all, and I know I'm not alone. A report issued last week says the the number of people relying only on over-the-air TV is GROWING. I see the hand writing on the wall. After years of seeing prices do noting but RISE, while the quality of what they are paying for do nothing but HEAD SOUTH, people are realizing the value is no longer there, so they are pulling out.

Haha, Dish commercial just said take a look at what we're paying for TV today.

What I see is we're paying more money to see less variety on a daily schedule, with annoying snipes during programming too. Same few shows all day long, over and over again, ad nauseam.

It would be a dream to see a schedule like this with more variety, where they could bring back shows that haven't been seen for a while:

USA Network: 8:AM show A
9: show b
10: show c
11: show d
Noon: show e
1: show f
2: show g
....
5: show j

Syfy.

8:AM show A
9: show b
10: show c
11: show d
Noon: show e
1: show f
2: show g
....
5: show j

Etc.

There was more variety back then

If people did that they would cancel their subscription. The arrogant jerks they have on their commercials need to be jap slapped.

Look at this lineup that is on MeTV in my area. It is a free over the air channel that I pick up with an antenna.

Check out thistv.com, another one that actually has variety in its schedule, and it can be received free over the air too.

Meanwhile, today's USA Network's schedule is...yep...mostly Law & Order (6am - 3pm) and NCIS (3-7pm), then NCIS Los Angeles, and NCIS again.

I get This TV in my area and also Bounce TV, MyFamily TV, and Tuff TV. Along with the big 4 networks, 3 PBS stations, and MynetworkTV.

"This" is one of the worst over-the-air channels- the affiliates near me not only constantly show the network bug, but also overlay the CITY they're in under that! Their movies are of course cut-for-TV versions too.

Best Snipe Ever !

Credit goes to Jimmy Kimmel who caught this clip of a FOX MLB game with the Yankees where a snipe for the new "Spiderman" movie had him flying out of C.C. Sabathia's butt.

Noticed the CW network bug now has a shaded box around it with "Summer" in bright white at the top- apparently their viewers are so stupid that they must also be constantly reminded what season it is. Once again CW proves that it stands for Can't Watch.

Ya, it seems that they do not know how to set it up correctly. The box should not be there.

Watching History at 12am and only the History bug is on screen.
At 1am the Twitter spam text is on the top right.

Neither should the logo, or anything else that isn't part of the SHOW!

It's getting to the point where I wish I had ABP(ad block +) just to be able to watch TV mad.gif
Seriously I don't know if it could be done but it sure does wonders for web pages, I despise screen clutter and every time I'm forced to watch pay TV(such as staying in a hotel, etc.) I always wonder how/why people put up with/pay for such screen clutter! I mean I don't need a bug constantly on my screen telling me what I'm watching, or coming up next rolleyes.gif

Whenever I Travel I take along my Portable DVD Player and a stack of Disks to watch so I do not have to deal with the Hotel's "Proprietary" Cable System. The Player also comes handy getting to and from my destination, If the In-Flight Movie is not to my liking (Or there isn't any) I just watch my own! biggrin.gif Also comes in handy at the Airport itself, no having to cope with those monitors shoving "The Woes of the World" down my throat! mad.gif

The big 4 networks, PBS and MeTV which are free OTA channels only have one logo on the screen and they are free channels. Common sense would say the free channels would have more screen clutter but that is not how pay TV monopolies work. I could handle one logo on the screen and commercials as long as the channels are free but if I pay for something I buy DVDs so I don't have to put up with either of them.

Also my mom has a nice collection of DVDs and this week we borrowed some from each other which keeps more of the cost down.
