Nice lil surprise!! Now if New Line would just move up Pans Labryinth to the 23rd as well....all would be well with the world.

Great news. I've just ordered both.
Already. I missed Eastern Promises in theaters. At least I wont have to wait as long now.
Whats with Uni and these super quick releases.?

What's next? Straight to HD-DVD?

I think the Kingdom won't feature DTHD and it's a f***ing COMBO.

Yes, ****ing combo, but why no TrueHD? They've been getting better about that lately. Look at Bourne Ultimatum. Look at most of their recent releases.

Also, is it just the 23rd for B&M? Amazon still showing the 26th.

EDIT: Guess I should have RTFA....

Online retailers have not updated their listings to reflect the street date change, but should be doing so momentarily.

Actually both titles feature a TrueHD audio track.

The Kingdom has the chance to be reference...the movie sounded phenomenal in the theater.

I feel the pain some people have with combos.

However, just speculating about features without reading the specs doesn't help anybody here. Is it too much to ask for a little research before posting missing feature comments?

Igans before you start gettting pissed at universal, read the back of the box my friend it is Dolby True hd, the Kingdom. Go to the link two posts above and check the Kingdom audio specs. Universal is my favorite studio and they never disappoint.

I used to hate combos also, but figure i watched Bourne Ultimatum, in hd twice, then my sister watched the SD side on her computer, my brother than watched sd side on his laptop, it isn't all bad. I don't love combos, but chill it is christmas,
post #11 of 40
I know what i am going to be doing christmas after i open my presents cuddle up in front of my Mitsubishi 65813 rptv and watch the Kingdom on my XA-2 in dolby hd , what better way to spend christmas

So far dvdtimes.co.uk has been spot on when it comes to revealing of specs.

I'll be picking up Eastern Primises, but i'm going to hold off on picking up "The Kingdon" until they ship it on non combo HD-DVD.I saw it in the theater a few months back and think it'll be one of the best HD-DVD yet, in the audio quality dept..

It's great. last minute Christmas present. :P

why people hate combo.

I never had a problem with them.

I can always rip the sd dvd when i rent.

I think I'll be picking up both of those movies

NICEEEEEEEEE

I loved the Kingdom and had it preordered already. Wanted it sooner so i even picked one day shipping with amazon
post #17 of 40
People have a problem paying twice for the same movie...that's the problem!

Besides, why would anybody who has the capability to watch a movie in high def care about also having in the same movie on SD? I can understand the reasoning behind "sharing" it by taking it to somebody else's house to watch it...but that's the reason NetFlix and Blockbuster exist!

Another reason--two sided disks mean you have twice the chance of one side getting scratched up! Who around here hasn't accidentally dropped a disk??

Combos=BAD!

From Universal Home site:

The Kingdom: No TrueHD

Eastern Promises: TrueHD

Bah. The Kingdom was listed in Canada for Dec. 24, so I was thinking Canada would get the title earlier than the US for a change.

Nope.
Knock Knock calikarim. You there ? Bring me the DTHD.
Wonder how Amazon will handle this since the 23rd is a Sunday.

Whatever other reasons people may have for hating combos, this is the one that irks me. While the perception may be that you are paying more for a combo disc, what you are actually paying more for is a new release, which in the case of WB and Universal will most likely be a combo (for now, anyway).

Paramount single disc, non-combo new releases are just as expensive! And yet, when was the last time you saw someone rant about them?

I'm all for combo's. I wish all HD-DVD's were combo's. Allows them to play in other rooms in my house some people are not screwing with my home theater when I am not around. Bring on the combo's baby!!!

[Raises hand].

I have over 1000 discs and have never accidentally dropped or scratched one. This whole Blullet Proof Blu Armor Coating is just taken way too far. I hope no one lets you handle loaded firearms.

Same here, more flexibility and the ability to rip the DVD to my smartphone. So far retailers and the studios have been happy to replace defective combos so I for one have no problem with them.

I'm with you. Its an added value and certainly opens up the versatility for when and where you can watch a movie. If I'm traveling or at a friends house, I can get some Knocked Up or Hot Fuzz action without having to throw down an added $20 for the SD. And in the case of Army of Darkness, sometimes you get a reference quality SD side.
