The outsourcing companies knows this, of course, but to act on it will hurt their managers outrageous bonuses.

It's many times the difference between in-business and not-in-business. There are many high-quality managers that would forgo better bonuses and more money if they knew their companies reputations and products would be impeccable in reputation and performance.

Chinese managers on-site, I can't be sure of.

Not really a logical in the first place.

When a US company ships E.Coli with their spinach, when another one does the same with their peanut butter, or in general when US Company X ships bad stuff Y we do not lump them together and say "USA quality is to blame." That would be silly as we know these companies are separate entities and in no way represent US quality as a whole. Why then, are we so quick to do so for China?

You yourself even show this tendency in a previous post where you said to the effect, "Yes US Companies are to blame, but so is China". Why (correctly) make the specific distinction for US companies, yet (incorrectly) blame "China" as a whole, rather than call-out the specific Chinese companies?

Hey, I joined a tech forum and world war III broke out! :-)

A few points to ponder. Maybe some reading on the history of quality and on the "flatness" of the world may be in order.

Zoney, buddy, I imagine you are probably a decent guy and a good family man and all that, but your post, notice I said your post, not you personally, kind of represents the stereotype that the rest of the world regards as the "ugly american", i.e. inward looking, chauvinistic, insulated, selfish, unaware, brash, etc. You really should get outside the country more often!

It was an American, Edwards Deming (look it up) who "taught" the Japanese about process control which is why the best selling car in N.A. is the Camry etc. etc. etc. None of the american companies were interested enough to pay attention to him.

The World is Flat, for better or worse, as described by another american, Thomas Friedmann. It's probably better to try to understand these things, which are almost beyond understanding, I admit, rather than just rant about them.

Our typical N.A. manufacturer's are not really interested in quality, as explained quite well by Dilbert, their senior managers would all gladly sell their children down the river and destroy the environment at the same time if it would boost their stock options.

Ok, maybe I went a bit too far with that last comment!
I think I'll go listen to my stereo.

Well jimi, within a few days of my original post, I PM'd twitch to apologize for "hijacking" his thread. If anyone is owed an explanation it's him, and I made it.

As far as "getting out of the country" I lived in Japan for 5 years, Okinawa for a year and a half, Taipei for 2 1/2 years, and Ubon, Thailand, for a year. Chinese is my second language. My 22 year old son is fluent in Chinese.

BTW, I'm a vast source of entertainment at Chinese restaurants, much to the amusement of many waitresses.

enuff said.

They weren't inspiring for me, when my folks decided to screw working in textile mills and open a farm with a roadside stand. Waking up at 5 in the morning, going to bed at 10 or 11. And that was me and my brother when we were around 10. Also my cousins who worked on the farm during the summer. Life is tough. How is it for most of you who put in an 8 hour day and do work on your PC's at home, tethered to a Blackberry? Doing more than a 40 hour week?
When the US exports beef to Japan and a single fragment of a spinal cord is found, even if there's no evidence whatsoever of mad cow or anything else, the US takes a black eye on the world stage with beef exports to other countries taking a hit for years.
