It's obvious that they linked old 24fps code into 1.4 since the tearing issue got worse than it was even before it was fixed the first time.
You nailed it! It's conceivable they could break more functionality.
If I remember right Atonement was just fine on 1.3 when I first bought it, but I might have not opened it until a report was posted here about DD+ not streaming? So you played it now with 1.4 and have the same issue? (no audio at all through HDMI bitstream audiophile, but decode through unit and sending PCM to receiver works?). I'm just wondering, since I assumed it was another bug between the Sammy and my receiver, but other DD+ titles from that same studio are fine.
I can confirm a lack of (muted) audio on bitstreaming playback [I didn't take the time to switch to PCM but interestingly, my Onkyo 605 has the tendency to need power cycling to properly decode the incoming audio from both the BH200 and BD-UP5000 (seems like a handshaking error) when bitstreaming, so it was, in fact, playing some audio from that disc...just not DD+. Upon power cycling, it was outputting only silence].
Yup, Deja Vu still has problems with 1.4. I thought it was just my copy till I saw the report in the problems disc thread and remembered I had issues with skipping etc. similar to Day After Tomorrow and Lord of War under 1.3 that I assumed were rental disc issues, but might not have been. Might be a case where there was a bad batch, but I would wager that just about everyone would have issues with that one. Probably a mastering issue or some new fangled thing they tried at the time?
I don't have the film anymore but I originally experienced and reported the problem based on a rental...if I chance upon the disc for a fiver, I might give it another go.
Also, I opened my Akira last night and I have the startup issue that is documented (have to hit stop twice when stuck in the slide show and then hit disc menu and it loads the menu and plays). At least I can get it to play. I have wanted that movie for ages and finally found a pristine used copy at FYE the other day for around $13 after discounts (it's a $30 disc at least online from what I have seen). Has a really cool 192K/24 bit Jap. DDTHD track that puts my Denon into a mode I have never seen or heard before. A great disc for checking advanced audio features. Has audio up to 100K htz. to drive the kids, dogs and cats crazy.
Yea, I heard about that super high resolution disc (finally, a res that is more equivalent to vinyl's capabilities
)...good to know the ole' 5000 can tackle it given the right encouragement. I'll add it to the problem list for posterity's sake.
