Initial 1.6 report:
-UFO Showtime now plays and does not lock up player at insert
-NIN loads now without any funny business
-Transformers still flickers with 24fps, but is not as bad as before. I will check some other Paramount/Dreamworks titles esp. the ones that seemed to have DDTHD issues after 1.5
-No change with my problematic UK release of The Island, I'm sure it is defective since I have the ITA release as well (exact same disc, different cover for ITA). ITA release still plays fine
-Pirates, Sunshine, Speed, Cast Away, MaCFSotW all now play. Have a stack of others that I will verify later. Transporter plays and was released the same day as Speed. Wanted to make sure other Fox titles that DID play with 1.5 were not affected. I will verify a few other released around the same time as the affected titles to be sure and also some recent ones that are fine on 1.4 and 1.5 to make sure there are no ill affects with 1.6. Those problems seem to be fixed.
I noticed that the bonus view icon on Sunshine (the reason I tried it under 1.5 in the first place) pops up, but I don't know how to activate the feature. It quickly goes away, which is good, if you remember these were coming up and getting stuck. Seems now they are not getting stuck, but the feature may be hobbled. I really don't care about that anyhow as long as the movie plays.
-Avatar no longer plays. Just kidding, just seeing if you are actually reading this. It's playing now and acts just the same as before.
-Akira still needs the double stop then menu click to get it going. Not a big deal it loads up quick.
-No change with my copy of 3:10. It's either defective or my loader is having issues (which I don't doubt based on how much I have abused it lately. Nice to have a brand new spare loader for if and when it dies completely, and 2 complete spare players with new/newish loadres).
-I need to try other past problematic discs like For Your Eyes only and a few others when I get more time.
-NTP now fixed. They told me they switched NTP servers and forgot to update that. It was probably working with 1.5 through a DNS fix, but mine has been unplugged for weeks due to the Universal Web Enabled HD loading delay/problem which I also need to check out, again. However no DST support so I had to sent mine to the next time one to get it to be right.
-The affected Fox titles seem to load up much faster than before (even with getting stuck)
I haven't done much with audio glitch testing, but it seems to act the same as before on the past several releases back to 1.3. Has all the same weirdness with my Denon AVR as before.
Someone will need to verify Man on Fire, Vinnie? Since mine is still sealed. I can verify all the other fox except for; Ice Age and High Crimes since I don't own them, but I'm sure they are fine. I might swap a couple BB online discs I have over the weekend for Ice Age and Sherlock Holmes.
Vinnie, in the meantime can you see if there is any improvement with Sherlock. That was one that I made an effort to report after I rented it, but it was late in the Fox issue reporting and may not have got in.
More later, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't run into other regressive problems.
Seems Sammy is still committed to keeping this player going. This release was worth the wait since it actually fixed some old HD problems and I'm sure has improvement for recent discs that we were not even aware of. I wish they would post a bug fix list like the computer companies do. Oh well.
It did take a while, but obviously they spent more time testing this go around. I harped on them to make sure they tested all past reported bad discs with this release before they let it out the door to avoid further problems.
