I have two players and sometimes I get "an update is required" and at other times the player freezes at the same second when tryping to play the disk and then I eject the disk. Could the freezing be a different issue?
On the first note that would be a complete waste of time. You need to call and be assigned a ticket that is escalated to at least 2nd level support to get any action at all. E-mails, chats, tweets, FB posts and calls to 1st level support are all ignored for this player. Maybe a class action lawsuit would be in order? They were already sued once before for not providing updates on other players. Does anyone know a lawyer that wants to chase that ambulance?
It would help to diagnose your problem if you could let us know what firmware you are running on each machine. Press and hold the info button while the tray is ejected and jot down both the main firmware and the loader firmware numbers and post, unless you know what you are running for sure. The last 3 updates you have to download and burn a disc. If you are relying on the Internet update over Ethernet then you would be several updates behind. Also it would be helpful if you could let us know the movies you are having issues with and at what time etc. If you are running the latest code then the "an update is required" error rarely if ever comes up, however there are many movies that will get stuck. If they are Disney they require a downgrade to 1.4 which is two updates back. I have made note of several other titles that get stuck for various reasons. Several newer Fox titles do this and you can get them to play, but then they pixilate like crazy and are unwatchable.
When I get a chance I need to call and report a bunch of disc issues and get status on several tickets I have open with them. Not once have they ever said that they would not release anymore updates. That may have changed recently. In the past they have always given me a line and assurance that a update was/is being worked on.
