I wish I could compartmentalize as well as you...actors with big egos or known for spreading idiocy in their private lives (Danny Glover and Sean Penn anyone?) turn me off to their films (this has much less of an effect in music, but when they're visually in my face I have a harder time with it).
It helps if you don't watch, read or listen to ANY media coverage like I do. I figure that if something is important enough for me to know about, I will know about it or someone I know will make me aware of it. My personal belief is that we would be better off as a country and world without media and news coverage at all. No offense to you news and media junkies out there. I prefer to be entertained in my spare/free time and not have useless crap shoved down my throat. When it comes to news it should be traffic, weather and safety related only. I know a pretty extreme view, but as I mentioned I'm a shallow hollow man with no life other than my towering media collection (the entertaining kind).
Back to WHD. Ya, I think you need to watch the movie. The folks that try to take down the White House are RIGHT wing radicals bent on preventing the liberal president shutting down the war machine, but not because he is black, but because he threatens their bread and butter (or in their case honey and jam). I did not think it was that heavy handed and actually pretty subtle. There is a more complicated story in there, but I don't want to spoil the movie for you. For the most part it is in response to a personal experience of one of the folks close to the president. Most of this transpires shortly after the flick begins and if you pay any kind of attention during the first few min. you will have it all figured out. Quite a different movie that OhF, though the basic concept is very similar. We see this every once in a while. One studio learns of a basic premise of another studio and we end up with a couple similar movies; This is the End/Worlds End, The Core/Deep Impact/Armageddon, The Abyss/ Leviathan, the list goes on and on…..
Ok, I promise that will be the last time I get philosophical or political here. Always gets me into trouble when I express my views and opinions on such matters.
