Looking to buy audio components for my budding HT setup. I bought the HDTV earlier in the year and now have to itch to start buying audio components. I really, really don't want to go over $2000 for the whole setup, and would prefer to stay closer to $1500 if possible. Reason being that I live in apartment and anything too powerful will likely not be used to its full potential or will be used to its potential and create a complex of pissed off neighbors.
This setup will be used with an emphasis on video gaming and movie watching. With that in mind, I'd like to have a decent number of HDMI inputs. However, I've noticed that anything with more than 2 HDMI inputs seems to start in the $1000 MSRP range, except the Onkyo 705. Reading through the thread on the Onkyo audio delay and lip synch issues has given me reason to question what seems to be an obvious choice.
So, I guess I'm trying to get a feel for my options here. Are there any AVRs that offer 3 or more HDMI inputs that retail for less than $1000? I'd also like to find a receiver that supports full HDMI 1.3a if possible since I plan on buying a HD movie player in the near term as well.
One question for the gamers here about the higher end receiver models that offer analog->HDMI upscaling: is that of any use for gaming at all? Or will it generate too much input lag from the video processing? And, will simple de-interlacing generate the same lag?
