Samsung DVD-1080P7 - always skipping

why is this thing always skipping? I am using burned copies of DVDs and every little scratch on it, it skips. When I burn a new copy it plays it perfectly... is it just really touchy or what? My dvd drive on my computer has no problem reading burned discs, unfortunately I needed to get a DVD player because i just bought a surround system. Anyone else have this problem? Are there any choices out there that arent so fussy?
